What was your biggest surprise this season?

Toney by a mile. There is no way any of us thought he would be this dynamic of a player and our best weapon on offense.

Based on all the reports from spring/fall camps, I figured he would see the field some and be our new punt returner, but not a full time starter. I was just happy knowing Ray Ray wasn’t going to be fielding punts. Toney blew my expectations out of the stratosphere. Insane.

Linebacker play has been invaluable, especially in Heatherman’s scheme.

We have a chance to win a national title because our front seven (including those Lbs) are constantly in the right spots, show discipline, and HIT HARDDDD.

We knew the defense would improve, but to this level overall….astrounding. All the credit in the world to Heatherman AND Mario.

But overall - it’s how well we evaluated the portal. We found draft picks in Blay, Scott, Thomas, I think Daniels can get on an NFL roster, I think Marion can potentially make it too. Keep using it year over year.

Dallas was awesome. I’m off to Arizona to support the **** out of these guys.

Lyle's struggles.
This for me. I’m still not ready to admit I was dead wrong and am holding out that the injuries had more of an impact than what we know, but I was so high on this kid coming out of high school and thought he’d have a huge season.

The defensive effort put forth, compared to last year. I was expecting improvement, but the level of effort they play at since SMU has taken this team to the next level.

He is ultra talented.

We should be patient. His vision wasn't good enough to make him productive while knocking off thw rust from missed time.

Bad eyes + no feel = Sophmore Slump.

The committee didn't ***** us.

K. Scott's dominance.

Consistency of DT play.

Lyle's struggles.

Beck's hesitance to throw deep.

Refs letting us play rough.
this - and I will add more recently, the play from Brockermeyer

not only did I expect pre-snap penalties (at Kyle Field and against Ohio) and **** ups in-line with most of his play this season, but had doubts about his power particularly against Taint.

kid has been earning his keep and then some the past 2 games. disciplined football, communication, reliable blocking in pass pro and getting to second level to spring key runs.

We have a national championship contending team. I think we all know that we are close, but I don't think we quite understand how close we are to #6. All Miami has to do is play like we've played since November 8th. That's it. And it's not "some flash in the pan". No, it's "play the same we have played the past 6 games. If Miami does that, we are national champions.

That's the biggest surprise.
