What should Miami’s gameplan be on offense?

Establish the run, and utilize the quick passing game early to neutralize their pass rush. Then later start taking occasional down field shots. Saw a stat that Beck had by far the fastest average time between the snap of the ball and his throws among P4 QBs. Along with our great OL that will counter their pass rush.

One trend I liked this year for road teams in SEC, is after a second down play going into 3rd down, they go into no huddle and force no substitution.

Allows for crowd not to get into it. Hope we copy that trend

Something to watch for this week is using 10 as a decoy. It’s obvious to anyone with any football sense “ that little receiver “ will be AM’s focus. Which I love a defense focusing on a slot wr , it’s much harder to deal with that than say a X or Z who you can bracket. Doing that with a slot is a dangerous game that leaves so many more opportunities outside or with te’s on the other side.

So this week I’d like to see Malachi being used the same way but more action off the other games . He was force fed the ball against Pit , I believe 21 touches. So the last thing that defense saw was a heavy , steady diet of MT. I have a strong sense any motion , movement , aligning will have more attention on him than a big breasted teacher in a special needs class. All 22 eyes will be following him. This could lead to a Lofton , CJ or JoJo big play. Or opening a big play for Pringle in run game.

I still say feed Toney but maybe less touches and more manipulation. Just something to watch.
It’s funny this week I was randomly thinking of the play against Louisville in 2020 when we motioned the wr in and Cam Harris went outside for 80 yards right where we motioned away from. Would like to see similar type stuff Saturday.

Many have already stated the obvious but use Mali as a decoy early on.
Yea they are going to bait and jump routes and sit hard on Toney as the hot throw in response to a pressure or simulated pressure.

Gruden seems to think the Aggie secondary is BBQ chicken so there might be some other matchups out there to hit.

People may give the Aggies credit for the defense that they have, but their defensive success is built on one player up front and their third down success, which is partly due to some really good coaching, but mostly because they have not played QBs worth a ****. It goes without saying that Beck is the best and most experienced QB this unit will face all season, but the issue mostly for them is that they have been wildly inconsistent with their defensive performances.

They rely on their front four, spearheaded by Cassius Howell, who is a menace. 5th-year senior, very experienced, very productive over multiple seasons, not the most athletic, but technically and fundamentally sound. Elko moves him all over the place and has him play all sorts of alignments, sometimes even having him rush over a guard on 3rd down. If there is a guy who will ruin our offensive gameplan, it is him and only him.

Everyone else on this defense does not strike any sort of danger or trouble. They have forced three (!!!) interceptions the entire season on a poor offensive schedule, with two of three picks going to LB and one of these LB having 18 total tackles on the season. Elko is doing a lot of stuff up front, and even then, his disguises and fire blitz schemes that he likes to run puts their defense in danger of losing contain on run plays. They have been wildly inconsistent in that area and just allowed Texas to run all over them, a team with a ****-poor run game.

Elko is not going to change his defense just for this one matchup. We will see tons of 5-man pressures with simulated stuff and man behind it. This dude lives and breaths 1 and 3 outside of that, which makes bracket coverage a bit of a *****. The sole teams on their schedule with an offensive pulse were the **** Catholics and Arkansas - both went for 40. This is the rankings list of teams they have played throughout the season according to OFEI: 56, 62, 6 (ND), 51, 43, 63, 15 (Arkansas), 83, 33 (with a backup QB going 7/22 and still allowing 2 100+ yard rushers), 65, Samford (not tracked) and 37. That is, with all due respect, a huge pile of middling average, with some outliers that exposed the defense on more than one occasion.

Strategy: basically the stuff we have run since the SMU game. They have nobody to cover Toney, so I hope we will use him plenty and often. Ultimately, I believe Elko will try to force Beck to throw as much as he can so that he will eventually make a mistake - aka, sell out on the run as much as possible. Their LB and S are not that good in coverage and are reliant on pressure up front.

And if anyone bothers: r/CFB is not overly positive with the Aggies defense vs Miami:
