What is Jaccuri Brown’s potential as a QB at Miami?

Are you saying for Brown or for us adding a QB next year?

For next year I agree, and anyone thinking differently hasn’t been paying attention. If your saying Brown, I’ll say **** no. He’s got potential. And if he is willing to sit and develop, I think he’s worth developing.
He will never start at a P5 level.

I think from an "already in the room" solution standpoint we should hope Emory becomes Kaaya. Frankly, I think that's more likely than Jacurri suddenly becoming a star QB.

A sober assessment of the room post-TVD continues to point to an external, portal QB.

Well People thought Josh Allen would never improve his accuracy either - which was straight dog**** in college and his rookie year.

I'm usually in the camp that accuracy is kinda just a thing you need to have, and shouldn't at all be relied upon to be significantly improved, but it is possible for him to improve. And really given his other traits, he does NOT need to be great accuracy wise - but he does at absolute minimum need to be average to above average in that department, which he's nowhere close to at this point. He has to be able to hit the easy and open throws. His size and legs will give him a major advantage against defenses, and at least in college give him a far greater proportion of his passes going to open guys. I think he needs a lot of growth. I do think it's absolutely too early to give up on him. Who knows what 2 years of further development can unlock in him. For me at least there is zero shot I'd say he starts next year. And if he just never improves on his accuracy, maybe he could try out at WR/TE. Dude looks like a monster.

Hes a dynamic athlete with game-breaking speed.

He has great character and is a great teammate.

He needs the ball in his hands.

Develop a scheme that suits his running ability or develop him at a new position.

Coaches have to work with the players and the players abilities.

Jim Jensen agrees.

I hope he surpasses this, but based on what we've seen--and understanding the circumstances--isn't he Anthony Brown? Athletic. Super mobile. But more game manager than slinger. And it doesn't seem like you'd want to get into shootouts with Jacurri. You're not winning games 48-42--you're winning games 30-24.

I like the kid. I’ve heard nothing but positive stuff from a character standpoint. Last year he showed great effort and athleticism but arm talent is a big question mark obviously. He has been on campus over a year so he still has time to develop. I’m curious how long you look at him as the qb of the future when his game is so one dimensional.

There is a kid named Kayteon Thompson (99) at UVA who was recruited as a QB and now plays WR/TE flex hybrid. He was a nightmare matchup for us and I think if Jacurri decided this was his path to success he could be a better version of Thompson.

Roast away.
Love the kid. If/when he gets passed up by Emory or anyone else, I really hope HE considers staying and playing another position. If he's dead set on being a QB. he may need to drop down a level. Of course miracles happen, so maybe it will all come together for him. God bless JB and Go Canes 🏈

Jodran Travis did not click as a passer until year 4
Jordan is the exception, not the rule. So is a guy like Jalen Hurts.

The good thing is, Jacurri is so gifted as a runner/athlete and defenses will be so concerned about that potential, that it should allow him the ability to find favorable 1 on 1 matchups. I guess the question is can he process the play and find those matchups vs. throwing into coverage.

He can't throw with accuracy. It's not that hard to figure out. Either he will change positions or move on.

Mike Leach once said, you can't take a high school qb and make him accurate, yet there are still NFL execs that think you can take an inaccurate college qb and make them accurate. It just doesn't work that way.

Dawson has said this in different words as well. You can tweak some things to help with accuracy but a large percentage of it….you’re either accurate or not….

Run a spread option with a power QB run game like the Tebow scheme.

But Tebow for complete passes. In college at least. Even Vince could put the ball on the money at Texas.

Unless Brown puts a Merryweather line effort in (04-05 off-season) to transform himself he needs to switch positions while he has time. Otherwise he [BGCOLOR=initial]will be a guy who has elite talent but no where to play. [/BGCOLOR]

I haven't seen enough of Brown's progression in the offseason to comment on whether he'll ever be able to be accurate or not, but even a guy like Jordan Travis learned how to hit a target more accurately. It took him 5-6 years, but he improved.

My biggest concern with Brown is that when things go to game speed, he still struggles like he did in the Spring game and what's being reported of the scrimmage. It seems like he's fine and improving in practice.
