What is Jaccuri Brown’s potential as a QB at Miami?

By far the weirdest progress I have ever seen with him. I am told he improved during spring and laid a major egg in spring game. I continue to hear good things during summer and today happens. I don’t know what to believe.
Personally think it's a confidence thing when it gets to the "big stage" (at the moment). Two situations open to the public in a "higher pressure" situation and his confidence + technique/progressions break down. Like @Ghandi said, Happy feet show up, then panic. I don't think throwing him into the fire last year with our OL did him any favors either.

You can absolutely fix his current issues. Would be foolish to give up on him right now. Too much raw talent and High IQ to throw away.

I continue to liken it to learning how to play golf. With enough practice at the range, one can get to where they strike the ball nicely. But once you get on the course and have to hit different shots with different lies, its a whole other thing.

Seeing him hit the net in throwing drills and non-contact passing drills is one thing. Having to do it in a game with live defenders and a ton of other variables is a whole other thing.

I like the kid. I’ve heard nothing but positive stuff from a character standpoint. Last year he showed great effort and athleticism but arm talent is a big question mark obviously. He has been on campus over a year so he still has time to develop. I’m curious how long you look at him as the qb of the future when his game is so one dimensional.

There is a kid named Kayteon Thompson (99) at UVA who was recruited as a QB and now plays WR/TE flex hybrid. He was a nightmare matchup for us and I think if Jacurri decided this was his path to success he could be a better version of Thompson.

Roast away.

Brown has as much chance of being an everday high ceiling QB1 as A Gillum has of being straight.

He could be a big bodied receiver or TE and probably make a ton of $$$$ on Sundays.

Mario has got to cut the bs, and go find our starting QB for 2024.

Theres way to much at steak for Miami the next few years.

Miami has got to start winning NOW!

Not just for recruiting purposes, but we have got to look like a team the 2 power conference actually give a F about wanting to add.

We can not keep waiting on projects to turn into something and lead us, we just don’t have the time anymore.

I love JB, but the kid has shown nothing when it matters, to make us believe we’ll be successful with him taking over for TVD
2024 QB1 is already on the roster (Emory).

Speaking of steak, @brock likes his well done.

So, basically, you’re saying he still has a shot at becoming a Greentree All-American.

Hes self aware, he’s patient (wanting the redshirt) and he works hard. Nothing needs to be said right now for the kid. Let him keep working. Let him build the confidence. And then let’s see where he is. From all we’ve heard he’s a good kid that seems to be going about his business the right way. Keep workin kid

This is his second year in the program, so he’s still young. But what is concerning is he has showed little to no improvement in his accuracy since he got here. He is just not a natural passer, and his ability to throw the ball is not even serviceable, he just flat out stinks at throwing the ball.
I would say, give him until this time next year and if he hasn’t made a remarkable improvement, tell him he would be better off changing positions.
Which I suspect is going to end up happening, at Miami or at another program. I hope he proves me wrong and turns into a serviceable passer, because his athleticism is off the charts and would love to finally have a real duel threat QB starting for us.

I feel like he’s the type of dude that needs to have the Keyes to the car and be a starter to thrive.

How many “back ups” or “depth” qb’s have been permanent starters after a starter got hurt or suspended.

qb is a weird position.
Some dudes have a switch that turns on when the lights come on.

But today didn’t look promising.

He’s much better than he was last year when he got here.

He has 4-years to get right
I believe you you but it’s hard to imagine a college QB could throw worse than he showed at the Spring game and this scrimmage. His throws are all over the place. I Hope something clicks and he becomes our version of Cam Newton, but he has a long long way to go to be a serviceable QB.

His potential is a mediocre passer with supreme athletic traits that u can win with if the roster is stacked like we expect it to be. We don’t need him to become mahomes accurate, just improve it and build the confidence.

Im more worried about him being indecisive but I haven’t seen enough to fully know. Accuracy, footwork, confidence can be improved but i want to see him fully understand what’s going on and process it in real time.

There’s a few videos of him throwing at 7in7’s.

It was bad.

Yeah, I saw clips last year throwing into nets and it was not good. Sometimes missing the net entirely.
I’m hoping he keeps improving. If he could just become serviceable throwing and trust him to compete a pass on third downs, he could be a great college player. He’s a big kid and might be the best athlete on the team.

I'd say give him another full year and if he hasn't made significant strides, switch positions.
This, let him hopefully redshirt and spend a season with a real qb coach and see what we got. If it’s still not good let him try TE.
