What are the visible differences between Shannon and Golden?

Strictly on the field I'm talking.

In what way are we a better team on Saturdays now than we were four years ago?

Let's list them.

The one area I see a difference is physically. I do think Al has placed a #renewed emphasis on S & C.

Other than that, I don't see much of a difference at all.

Al wears a tie.

For real though, and I never ever thought I would say this, but we look consistently more unprepared under Golden. It's terrifying. We play lost and scared. Randy had moments when that happened, critical unforgiving moments actually, but our whole ******* team plays like it's thinking all the time under Golden. That's all we do is think and react. Disgusting.

I find this cringe-worthy to say, but as it relates to ON THE FIELD, I think Randy Shannon showed more flexibility and willingness to adjust than we have seen so far from the current staff.

- Shannon went from predominant Man under to transitioning to some underneath zones. The notable Sharpton pick-6 toward the back end of Shannon's tenure as a Head Coach is one example.

- Shannon went so far as to hire Whipple and Bill Young. Both are guys who strayed pretty far from what Shannon had showed were his core, on the field, philosophies. Young was a zone blitz guy. Whipple was a chuck it guy.

- Shannon also made swift decisions when something didn't work. The notable example is Tim Walton. He was immediately fired. Say whatever you will (and most of it is likely very accurate), but Tim Walton actually grew to become an NFL defensive Coordinator under a pretty legitimate Head Coach.

We're talking about on the field, here. I can't believe what I just wrote.

There seems to be more camaraderie between teammates now than the previous era. To really answer your question. No major difference.

During the Randy years - Our defensive speed was faster, less on the field thinking, less physical (player's size) & blown assignments.
Currently with AL - Our defensive speed is tortoiselike, more on the field thinking, more physical (player's size) & there are still blown assignments.

Granted defensive speed can be corrected with defensive scheme.

I see one difference. Randy never had to deal with the cloud or scholarship limitations. Golden has every year. Not sure when we are done with the limitations but we probablt still have 2 or 3 years left. I believe both need help with the X and O's

This has to do with talent but as far as schemes and making in game adjustments I see very little from Golden. He sticks to his Pillars and beliefs regardless if they work.

No more being dragged down the field by holding onto a towel....

Agree that was to answer the talent in which Randy had no excuss for some of those horrible classes. This will be Goldens 1st non clouded class. But it's next years #1 class that we are starting to f up. I think golden would be a good ceo/head coach if we had good coordinators which we dont.

I'm with Lu, Al Golden is a great program builder he does everything correct off the field. Other than some real ineptness with the clock, Shannon was better on the field. I do think Golden's players play harder and are much more physical.

I know what it looks like right now, but let's try and chill until after the Duke game. Nothing is going to happen during the season anyway.

It is unimaginable that we are actually worse than we were under Shannon, personally I didn't think that was possible.
