Welcome to the U, Bowman Archibald

Bowman Archibald
Thurston Armbrister
Standish Dobard

With names like these, we really are turning into the Harvard of the South.

UM has probably had the most interesting names in college football history:

Barry ***** -- RB mid '60's (yes, that WAS his name)
Golden Ruel -- OL in the early '70's out of Gables, later OL coach for USC under Carroll and now asst OL coach for Seahawks. His God-given name is Golden Pat Ruel. Golden is apparently a surname for one of his ancestors so his father, I think, and Pat, were named Golden Pat Ruel. I used to get a kick out of it when our roster had a starter named Golden Ruel.

At Harvard, it is just as likely that you'll see a ******, Indian or Chinese surname among the student body. It's no longer the school just of the preppy WASPs.

It sounds like we're recruiting the old Mainline of Philadelphia....white Presbyterians and mainly Episcopalians.
J.C. Penny -- RB late '80s from Ohio

You done see many people with the last name ***** anymore. Hmmmm. Did all the *****'s disappeares.

Since they can't have offspring they went extinct.

Welcome to The []_[]!

E. Winston was 275lbs as an incoming Freshmen - this guy is 240 - pretty big difference, imo.

This guy is still a junior in high school. What was Jason Fox at this time?

Heavier - but probably not by much. FWIW, Greg Olsen came in with archibald's exact height and weight measurements(6'6 240). It will be interesting to see how much he grows in a year.

This guy (Bowman) is not an incoming freshman, he is finishing his JUNIOR year. If he is 240 now it doesn't really matter because he is a long time away from enrolling in school.

Per David Lake

I know Miami is pretty excited about this pickup. He was their top tight end on the recruiting board for this year. They view him as a blocking tight end who may grow into a tackle in the future.

This the **** I dont like. Please let us not waste another athletic talent like this on offense bull$hittin around in our NO TE USING offense. You guys make me laugh getting all excited about putting this kid at TE. NO! Let Njuku play TE. **** we dont use the TE that much anyway. Let this kid play OLB or DE and wreck havoc. We can NEVER have enough athletic guys on defense. He goes to TE and we wont hear from him for about 3 years from now. Ask Jake O'Donnell. JMO.

Thanks for your astute insight. I'll copy your analysis and send it in an email to Coley who probably won't know what to do with him.

And let's beef up Njoku so that he is no longer a budding track star and no longer a 7 foot HS high jumper with 4.5 (or better) speed. Want that guy chipping on LBs, and sealing on DE's, not jumping to the sky as a big WR.

Everyone who has seen Njuku play says he is a future TE. And I doubt he is a legit 4.5 guy, I think you made that up. He is a helluva high jumper. But what do I know.

I see you are back on the Coley bandwagon. Since when did this guy get the benefit of the doubt? I like him too but he gets no passes from me. I wont assume anything in regards to him and using the TE as a legit weapon in this offense like we use to until I see it on the field.

I am happy with the commit. Lets hope he sticks.

Archibald says he'll be enrolling early.

@bo_diesel5: @mattyports @CanesInSight I am enrolling early

@miamihurricanes: #WelcomeToTheU Bowman Archibald - #Canes sign the fifth-best tight end in the nation to a grant-in-aid agreement

What does the grant in aid mean overall?

It's for kids who plan on enrolling early, but it really means nothing.

He can sign them with more than one school so it doesn't mean he can't de-commit eventually if he wanted. I think Cook signed one with all three Florida schools last year.

It guarantees that the school will have a scholarship for the player. So while it is not binding for the player, it is completely binding for the school.
