T-Rob is a good recruiter and good position coach...that does not mean he can run a Defense....he has no experience doin it...Cause I guarantee if he came and was horrible as a D-Coordinator, he would get Roasted...Just having him on staff would be a Plus...IMO

So basically T-Rob at worst would be Coley in that he leaves something to be desired X's and O's wise but at least he's a money recruiter.

On the other hand Doritos brings us what on or off the field?

True.

I would still rather see us make a run at a guy like Leavitt or similar, because he is both. It's a better job than some are willing to give credit for right now. I don't think we should have to settle in the open market.

He unifies all Miami fans for one common cause: his dismissal.

No way not to like this hire. He is a respected old head, and if nothing else, will be privy to some inside sources that I think our staff has lacked on some of these kids. He is an ear to the local community, which pretty much is all we need to supply us with elite talent.

Al has his flaws, but he has shown that he can bring in some staff,

Well I guess now we can start blaming Ice Harris Jr. .. might as well keep the excuse alive

that kid is all cane...chose to go to um just to run track over having some football scholarship offers in high school

So what exactly is Ice's role now? Can he contact recruits as much as any other coach? Is recruiting reach limited because he isn't technically a coach?

telly? why? no. not the same at all.

because Telly has more connects to the NW Miami Dade area (as in the Miami Gardens area which is flooded with kids Miami has wanted and will continue to want in the future). Like I said it's whatever, I have no problem with Ice getting it now.

ice has he inner city=-Miami,Liberty City,Overtown,Allapatah area lock down....

i think were cool in the north side though.....lot of um friendly coaches around...(Luke,Hill)

we have Barrow and Solly down south....

he has Hurlie Brown's old spot...and if u can remember Hurlie was "low key" in on recruiting somewhat....

Ice on the football ops spot is good...imo...dude knows offense and has relationship with coley ...likely can help out somewhat even though its not his job requirement..but he is another ear on the offensive side..(**** bama is loaded down with guys like ice)

Ice is plugged in on the inner city optomist scene to the high school level..with his son still coaching..add to it his former team BTW is loaded to the brim with prospects in the coming years....with us already having a commit.

Big Move...**** i can see Lil Ice being a GA sooner or later.....

Last time we had him we had some great recruiting classes if I recall properly.

Worst recruiting classes at Miami in 30 years

This. I don't think he should get much credit for 2008 class (when those kids were locks) and the 09-10 classes were unmitigated disasters.

Everyone lauded his hire back in 2008 because he was going to be a great liaison to the community and do things like establish academic road maps for kids that needed it so that we had a better chance with the academic question marks. At the end of the day, did he really move the needle?

Seriously dude if you don't understand how this helps us you have no idea how recruiting works.

Al was heading this yankee white dude staff who came in talking all kinds of chit and in the end the local coaches got tired of the BS. Whether wrong or not that was what was happening.

Al needed to make a move like this to get back on track with the local high school coaches.

Cane football will never be significant if it cant get what it wants from SFL. You cant get what you want when the local high school coaches are talking behind your back causing mistrust by the community.

SFL is the hardest place to recruit in the country because every kid is recruited by every school in the country and they all think they are the chit and high school coaches serve as their mentors and can easily plant any seed they want to make the kid be suspect of the U and this white dude.

Ice didn't help us very much in recruiting before, what makes you think he will help much now?

He had nothing to do with the 2008 class that was full of busts by the way (I don't believe he was hired till right before NSD or something)

Everyone in here blowing this way outta proportion, this hire won't do ****, and to be honest after the bull **** he pulled last year I'm kinda ****ed we rewarded this F@#K with a job.

Go ahead and start bashing me...

Yankee white dude staff? Let me guess, you're one of the ones that think al can't connect with kids down here bc he's a Yankee?

JJ, butch, Dennis, et al all had Lilly white staffs. Let's stop with the madness.

Pretty clear that while Hurlie may have been a bit under the radar as far as job positions go, he was very active in the community and recruiting, judging how many recruits talk about how they have long term relationships with him

Difference is that Golden hired him this time, Not Shannon, meaning he's actually going to have to work for his paycheck.

He's not a coach. He's off field staff, probably because you need a degree to be an on field coach, so all you people who ignore facts, forget about your Ice for DC dreams.

Let's just hope he actually builds bridges better than in the Shannon era.

Only complaint I have here is there's going to be a lot less posts on the recruiting board

This job is basically to be a spokesperson for UM with recruits/the community so they have to get a voice who is respected and thats perfect for Ice. Plus much less stress on the job for him so this is a position he can hold for a loooooooooooooooooong time

Pretty perfect spot actually. Thanks.

Hopefully this solidifies a kid like Mark Walton.

Not everyone from the area will sign with us, I get that. But when you see die hard "fans" like Sony go elsewhere, it ****es you off. Walton should NEVER end up elsewhere IMO.

Hopefully he finishes his college degree as well so he can become a coach at The U in the future.
