This is BS tho. Like yeah there aren't elite edge rushers or NFL LB's on the roster like the last few years, but that's the problem though. Even last year when Miami had elite edge rushers the defense was still getting shredded. It's not a talent issue but a scheme/coaching issue. The same problems were there last year just on a smaller scale with far more talent on the defense.

You also don't need NFL talent littered throughout the defense to have a good defense. There are coaches all around the country with less defensive talent/athleticism on their defense that are producing much better results because the players are put in better schemes and coached better. In true talent rankings, Miami is #2 in the ACC behind Clemson, and there is a large gap between Miami at #2 and UNC and FSU at #3 and #4. Despite being #2 in the conference in recruiting talent on the roster, Miami is #9 out of 14 teams in yards allowed per game, #8 in yards per play and #8 in sacks.

The defense stinks, is wildly underperforming in the conference relative to their talent, and the scheme and coaching is obviously a huge part of why.

Diaz has zero feel for the game. As coach Hayes said yesterday, the dude grab bags plays. And god awful ones at that. His scheme has flaws but his blitz packages and untimely blitzes make him as bad as he is

Pickett was forced to go one dimensional from early on. They were going to rack up yards. Fundamentally, the defense looked MUCH better now that some guys are out for the year.

This team has 1 viable corner currently and 0 actual P5 capable linebackers. Brooks probably is but we haven't seen him this year to see if he has progressed. It drove me nuts last year subbing Frierson for Smith and now Carter for Frierson. Just play all three at the same time as Linebackers, they are the best athletes we have that can play. the subbing is flat idiotic. Flagg is probably a great kid, watching him in space is painful. playing 10 on 11. He was pretty much unplayable. The recruiting failures at these 2 positions is why we can't stop a nose bleed. Defense is terrible. Defense is pretty terrible all the across the country. the games are a race to 40pts
