Watson officially request trade

Watson can report. Be a problem in the locker room and destroy the team with public comments during mini camp. James Harden did the same thing after a game and he was traded within 48 hours. Watson could go on a podcast tomorrow. Rip the owner and he'd be done there. The Jags were playing hard ball with Ngaouke. He called the owner's kid a clown twitter and was out of there real quick. The teams only have that type of control because the players allow it. If he's willing to go that far he'll get to a team he wants. He can easily decide the market by giving the Texans a list and having his agent make that list known and making sure his agent informs all interested parties. The power of a no-trade clause. He wants to go to a winner. It does him no good if the team has to decimate their picks and player pool because he's open to 15 teams.
He'd still get fined and still have to play for the team he insists he won't play for while doing damage to his public image. It's not happening. Besides did the Rockets not get a king's ransom for Harden? That situation proved that no amount of "player empowerment and leverage" and childish grandstanding can stop a team from getting a fair return for a player - all it takes is 2 teams to create a bidding war.

Watson can easily decide the market and the Texans can just as easily decide they don't accept his list. If they want him to go the NFC and the Panthers are the only team willing to offer a good package then that's his destination. That or retirement. If they want the best offer and the Jets provide it then that's where he's headed regardless of how Phins fans want to bargain in their heads that they can have their cake and eat it too.

Watson grew up outside Atlanta. Falcons have the #4 pick. Organization is a total 180 from the Texans. Easy to connect the dots.

We haven't had a franchise QB since Marino. Unless Flores and Grier are 110% Tua will become that guy, I think you gotta seriously entertain it if nothing else. JaMarr Chase nor Devonta Smith get us to that next level if we don't have anyone who can get them the ball consistently.

Complicating matters are that he's favoring a division rival if we don't go get him, and his effect on the salary cap. If the Jets manage to land him you're facing Josh Allen and Watson twice a year for the next 10+.

I'm a huge proponent of building through the draft, but Watson is a known commodity and checks off a box we've been failing at for 20 years. Tough spot for the Phins. They already passed on Herbert who looks like he'll be playing in LA for the next 10-15 years, and the ghost of passing on Drew Brees still haunts the franchise. It's gonna cost that #3 overall one way or another, so any hope of holding onto it and landing Watson are futile. Interesting to see how it plays out.
Agree, but also think Watson’s play for Jets is a chess move to pressure and box Dolphs in to make the move. This decision could happen above Flores and Grier, by Ross with input from Danny. Some moves are even to big for just coach and management.

Looking at the stafford trade... Watson is worth way more
More, but again, Watson and his agent have all the leverage. Houston made their bed and now they’re gonna lie in.

And I’d be willing to bet if houston plays hardball not to trade Watson, he’ll go public with whatever bull**** happened from the owner on down behind the scenes.

I think Goff's contract had a lot to do with Detroit getting that second first round pick too. Houston's going to try and get a kings ransom for Watson either way.

They made it harder on themselves by boxing Texas into a corner. No on in the league cares about some alleged to promise they made to 25 year old QB who wants to play GM.

Phins have won 1 playoff game since Marino retired. How many first and second round picks have we made since then, and what have they gotten us? Ditka gave up an entire draft just to get 3 seasons out of Ricky Williams, but the Saints found themselves a franchise QB in 2006, won a SB in 2009 and have made the playoffs 9 times since signing Brees. You can't win big in today's NFL without a franchise QB.

Grier has to make this happen. Nobody will give two ***** about Tua or the draft picks if the Phins are making the playoffs and contending for the SB for the next 10 years.
I'm increasingly becoming convinced Watson needs to wear aqua and orange.

He makes us a contender now and for the next decade. After 20 years of futility it's hard to pass that up. It will absolutely cost us some immediate draft capital and Grier will have to get creative with the cap when it comes to signing free agents. But Watson makes us a very attractive destination also. Giving up both first rounders, probably a 2nd and Tua will be a tough pill to swallow, but nobody's going to care when we make it to a SB for the first time in 40 years.
