WATCH: Cade Weldon senior highlights

****, that's a great freakin' tape. Kid makes all the throws and he can spin it! The ball just zips out of his hand. Good footwork too.

My favorite part of the tape though...

As he's going out of bounds a defender dove at his feet and could've hurt him. Weldon clearly says something to him about it. A QB with attitude. Love it.
He's c0ckstrong.

The ball jumps out of his hand doesn't it? Looks like his throw game improved pretty dramatically from his sophomore season, which was the last full season. Lots of teams missed by not going hard at this dude.

he doesnt have great offers but snapple fact is his dad is the former FSU qb who was Heisman runner up so he prob knows hte game and position very well.

I posted this in another thread but this was the case because he suffered from a pretty egregious injury -- missed his junior year, and could not attend many camps or combines. He really flew under the radar, and I am glad to have him.

I don't care who wins the future QB competition and won't make any meaningful judgments till the dudes throw at GreenTree in a live setting, but Weldon's tape shows more evidence of things he'll be asked to execute in college than any other QB we've brought here in a good while. Some of those slant patterns are gorgeous. He threw a corner route in one clip that freaks Safeties out.

As I often mention, I look at offensive players from the defensive perspective of "****, that sucks to play against." At least through the air, I rather play against any of the other guys than Weldon right now. Now, a guy like N'Kosi is a projection and we'll see if he can throw some of those seam routes and clean up both his release and footwork. Way too early to tell on either of those guys.

Some observations:

1. He's bigger than initially thought - a legit 6'2, 200+ lbs.

2. Arm strength is better than I expected. Made a throw from the right hash to the corner of the end zone from about 30 yards away (hit his man in stride) that really stood out to me.

3. I wouldn't call him a "mobile" QB, but he certainly is elusive and stays on his feet. Being able to keep plays alive in today's game is so important, and he certainly has some of that 'Sam Darnold', escapability we saw last night. Given our OL play, this will be a pre-req of whoever plays the position next year.

4. He throws his receivers open. Even BK played in more of a spread system in high school that was primarily about making quick reads and getting the ball to guys in space. Weldon also made good reads but then gave his receivers the ability to catch the football in optimal positions and make plays.

If we are comparing him to former Cane QB's, Brock Berlin comes to mind. Good size, Solid arm strength, and enough mobility to enhance his effectiveness. Brock went 19-5 as a starter too, so I think we'd all take that comparison.

I agree with this whole-heartedly. Perry is definitely the sexier the prospect and his ability to run gives us a dimension we haven't had here. Weldon may actually be the better pro prospect long term and think he ran a far more sophisticated offense than Perry did in HS.

Being an EE and being trained by his QB dad since birth, I think Case has a leg up on Perry if they give the reigns to a frosh because he will be so much more polished for QB competition at fall practice. If Cade can pull of the RPOs it may be his to lose.

Cade Weldon will become what Olsen was supposed to be.

The God Emperor of Miami.

He's handsome. and has banged all the hottest cheerleaders at his high school per my sources. He's the most envied at his school.

He will beat out Perry and will become the next Dorsey under Richt.

I am officially crowning Cade Weldon.

gawwwwwwww

Lol

Someone please copy/paste the article on rivals about Weldon getting the news on Kayaa going pro via group text from Richt

Did you not read my post? Look at the QB rating the completion % and he only had 4. INT's . What you are looking is Tom Brady.

Dude,seriously... This is simple math. You keep asking questions that you won't accept the answers to. HE HAD 1600 YARDS! That equals not throwing the ball much at all & short yardage when he does in all likelihood. Well just agree to disagree. I understand you like him as a qb. I just don't like his stats. Leaves way too many questions for me. Just a personal opinion that's all.

You are the one not listening Dee, he put up those numbers only playing the first half of games because of how efficient he was at leading his team to big first half leads. Basically he played so well in the first half of games that he only played in like two second halfs this season. If you were to adjust his numbers to if he played full games he would have ridiculous numbers 3000 plus yards, 50 plusTDs.

I'm listening perfectly well. Again I'm not trying to argue because we all have opinions. However numbers are facts & that's where yall ain't listening to MY concerns. The numbers posted was 1678 I'm not gonna debate a hundred yards or how many snaps etc. He doesn't have the stats for my liking that's all. His stats don't change just because he only played the first halFS. For me that shows a strong running game more than anything else. Heso not moving the ball up & down the field for all these accomplishments unless he only did it for 16 drives. Do yall understand now? It's all about numbers for me. I want to know my future qb can make all the throws and has the Stats to prove he's done it. That's all.

Dude, if colleges recruited by stats then their rosters would look completely different.

I know a 6'1" QB that threw for 3,400 yards and 26 TD's last season (as a senior in high school). Would you want him at Miami? He plays at Lehigh right now.

Same thing applies for other positions. If you want stat warriors then be prepared to recruit guys that aren't physically up to standards. The best high school players don't always translate to college and vice versa.

This is the what some people don't understand

I believe that's the point Brooklyn is trying to make. 1700 yards @ 70% completion rate is a small sample size to see all the throws he'll need to make. Also, not being an EE, he'll have an awful lot of ground to make up. It's a lot to ask even if he is as good as advertised. It appears that Weldon is better than advertised.

It's a good situation for a change to be in have good competition at QB again (instead of the typical scramble we've been accustomed to since Dorsey).

PS, it just occurred to me that Kosar beat out a higher rated QB. Walsh beat out a higher rated QB. And Torreta beat out a higher rated QB. If it happens, it's not without precedent and it tended to work out well. It looks like a win-win situation IMO.

I know he came a year earlier, but Jack will be lucky to ever see the field. Football acumen, I would bet this dude is way ahead of the other two. Perry feel offers abit more, but Weldon is right there with him.

Weldon is awesome for a high school qb, but unless RIcht likes playing daddy ball favoritism. There is no reason he should ever start at Miami, unless all the qbs on the roster and perry are just that bad.. He's like 6 feet maybe 6' 1 at best. There is a reason why this kid who is a FSU legacy hasn't ever received an offer from them but a guy like Stanford Samuels does. Kids lucky Richt is at Miami. Richt has his son on staff to, so he might be into that favoritism buddy buddy type stuff. That shouldn't happen at the college level at any program, but who knows. People hyped up shireff when he committed though so it what it is.

Kaaya is going to be the first Miami qb drafted into the league in quite awhile, and you legit have whatevers saying the kid sucks, he's soft, etc..... seems legit.

so the reason he should never start at Miami is because you think he's 6'0 - 6'1. is that correct?

i did some research. apparently he was expected to get some good offers until the injury. Also, Casey wasnt glad he went to miami over FSU so maybe he was going to get FSu offers.

Just gonna be nice to have solid competition at the QB position for years to come... I'm going to reserve judgement as to who starts until the crank pics appear!
