Walk with me

What game film do you have that has been so great for these guys?

Wiley (again I like Wiley and hope he develops into a starter) getting some tackles against Bethune and FAMU? … And I'm as big a fan as Pruitt as there was on this board as a prospect, when has he been great in games? Big special teams hits?
Hey everyone LBs getting severely limited opportunities and doing exactly what you expect and racking up stops at the LB position can't be called great. Don't do it or skeeter will call you a **** and say you can't comment if you didn't also see practice.
Good point man

I think this is sort of what I mean. Assuming elite linebackers aren’t a huge chunk of the budget, why not gamble a bit on an unfinished product who has absurd upside like Randle?

Is the overall point that the money could be allocated better on veteran linebackers in the portal? I’m trying to understand…
Bro, because we don't play the guys that are more pure LBs and also athletic and more talented with higher ceilings already. And we never were going to play Pruitt who was in the more hybrid S/Lb role... Why would anyone think Randle who is an elite athlete but has clearly not even shown at the HS level TOP pure LB success and would likely initially be also a pruitt-like safety/lb hybrid type player & or even as @DMoney suggest a total athlete who plays offense too... Would result in him developing quickly and actually be given reps?

Why would it be called "great?" I'm saying someone has to make tackles against lesser talented players.

I'm calling you a c-u-n-t and a b-i-t-ch because of your repeated meltdowns. Read your posts man… Do better. Are you this annoying and meltdown prone in real life?

Meltdown lol
Again showing you think people shouldn't be allowed to post about things.

Okay someone had to make tackles against lesser competition. So nothing they do in game matters, and thus no one ever should be given more opportunities based on performance. Self fulfilling prophecy there. You don't play them against anyone good, so to you they never can earn opportunity for more lmao. You're a ******* moron

We don’t play those guys because they aren’t better than what we have already. Not because we hate athletic and instinctual linebackers.

Why does Randle need to develop quickly and get early PT? We have the funds to pay veteran linebackers out of the portal and be patient with Randle’s upside to see if he develops into something more.

I don’t think we should ever stop gambling on elite athletes, especially if they don’t cost seven figures out of high school.

Because I'd guess Greentree performance is as or more important than 4th quarter blowout performance? Novel idea huh.

We have one of the top 3-4 run defenses in CFB. And that was proven last year in the playoffs against physical teams.

Heahterman's definition of a pure LB is different than yours…He's willing to gamble with LB in coverage to remain a rock in the running game. Pitt is a team that can hurt that with their RBs in space and catching the ball. FSU hurt it, let's see if he adjusts or double down

Can we end the discussion or do you need to be wordy and emotional again?

You think there is no possibility that Wiley/Pruitt/Bonner/Marcelin are better IN PAIR with one of Toure/Smith than having BOTH Toure and Smith on the field together for 90% of reps? Lmao. Ok.

This is exactly what I mean. We get fed a clear as day **** sandwich and people just go, nah can't possibly try anything different! When you have a known quantity that has MAJOR AS **** liabilities, the potential marginal negative that TRYING alternatives creates is so ******* low its a joke to use that as an excuse. Its like when Baumab was our starting TE and we never played anyone else. Okay after a while that may have been due to injuries and lack of depth. And same with SJ, hmm we play Congdon and while there are problems, clearly as he develops the long term UNIT outlook is improved. Crazy.

So saying playing Wiley or Pruitt along with You're would be such a massive fall off from Toure and Smith is such a joke....

We’ve had to play Dunnegan due to injuries… but I understand your frustration. I don’t think it’s that simple. I know for a fact Mario isn’t holding any players back because of some vendetta or that he isn’t trying to develop players.
Well to be technical we play JJ AS MUCH AS WE DO DUE TO INJURIES. However injuries or not since spring we already were going to carve out a significant role for him. That's just facts. There no excuse not to give reps to our youth especially when you consider the reprecussions towards next year's team as a direct result of these choices. Both of them are gone next year. So what then? Because we don't have a clue what we really have in the room if we won't even give them reps. Far as who's playing on the defensive side of the ball and who isn't MARIO has next to nothing to do with this. He simply supports his coaches decisions because that's what any coach who delegates authority properly should do. However he will certainly make an exception and decide to intervene when a player causes issues internally or off field. So we're seeing one exception this year. All things can be true. Heatherman can feel this is our best lineup, he can value athletic linebackers, this particular group might not be ready etc etc. But then you can't justify how many of the reps you give to dudes who don't match all of the established criteria for the position or who create defensive liabilities. You also then have to spread some reps around. Because your guys need reps, they need breaks, they need development etc etc.

Coaches don't agree with his imaginary lineups… Waaaa….Waaaaaa

The meltdown continues

I honestly don’t even understand your argument. Toure and Smith are playing really well. We should play those guys less because Wiley and Pruitt MIGHT be good?

Youre seeing half the picture. Each room has its own budget. It's a positional thing. So while big picture it's not a big allotment to the team, if your entire rooms allotment is say 5 mill(just an example. Not giving any figures out that reflect reality)for your group of linebackers yet your nil for this kid alone is 850k and it's a yearly contract in some instances a 2 year contract than look at what percentage of that allotment you gave to a kid who will have zero impact in his position group while he's on that contract. Let alone how that will make dudes in his group come back to us and have issues with their nil... Any worker knows what people around them are making. This is no different. If a kid who isn't even playing is making more than me but I'm actually contributing how you think I'm gonna take that.
For me it's never about the portal or veterans either. It's about evaluations and development. We emphasize over everything our high school recruiting. Some people don't wanna acknowledge that but it's because they have trouble with reality too. We honestly just need to do a better job of finding people in high school at the position who match exactly what we're looking for. Based on the fact marcellin is getting pt like he is now and we're also putting so much effort into length at the position with this class it would tell you were essentially gonna put marcellin at the mike and start over off ball. Which would be a complete crime if that's what we're doing.

I hear this argument and it makes sense but I disagree. We should always be willing to take home run swings on kids with unique athletic profiles, especially at a position that is so easy to find in the portal. Maybe Randle takes three years to develop into a freak. Maybe he doesn't develop at all. But I still think we should buy the occasional lottery ticket. He's not a Top 50 recruit based on how he fits with a college program right now. He just has a ceiling that others cannot reach.

QB and LB aren't the same and the dynamics are different, but we are doing the same thing with Izzy Abrams no? He is probably getting a big number and he isn't going to contribute next year or maybe even the year after. We just don't want to find out he is a superstar somewhere else.

Also isn't possible we are just playing Marcellin because he is the third-best option and we don't actually view him as a starter? I don't think going into the portal for both starting linebackers is that big a deal.

The fallacy of the unknown.

"We haven't seen them ***** up yet, so they must be better than the guys that have screwed up already".

Call me when you find a guy we didn't play that became a star elsewhere, then I'll start to put some credibility into your wishcasting.

Are you looking for a list of guys that portal led out and then gunna say Only losing stars matters? Guess all the former Canes turned SMU players don't count. Kaleb Spencer hasn't been starting at VTech, Isaiah Horton and Colbie Young were buns, popo racking up tackles don't matter, Nyjalij Kelly wouldn't have played here...

We don't need wiley to be a star. We need him to be good which overall would be better than Smith and/or Toure...

The fallacy of the unknown....yeah vs the fallacy of starting known below average lmao

I think he looks more natural on offense than defense. Maybe I’m wrong (the sample is very limited) but nobody has really challenged that point. They just say we need linebackers more. That’s true, but that’s a separate question.

He’s still a take for me either way because the profile is so unique. Get him here and figure it out. There are flashes on defense. But we are bringing in other linebackers.
He doesn't look natural on either side, looks stiff but has good straight line speed. Best part of his highlights is chasing down people from far away. I don't know how anyone can watch him and think he can play WR. Maybe he could be like an AJ Brown or DK Metcalf but he doesn't seem like like that type of athlete to me.

We have needed a stud LB. We have not had that in a looong time. Pls keep in at LB. We have not had that cut, Sears and maybe Bryson at WR.
