Bunch of numbers have been thrown around of Richt’s walk away figure, someone on here even said it was a lie and we didn’t owe him any money.

This board really needs to lay off Richt and the childish nicknames used for him. He blew it this past season and the end of the prior season. Except he manned up realizing the game has passed him by and he lost his fire unlike previous coaches. So he walked away quietly without any drama instead of dragging this on for multiple seasons. He's forgiven in my book and got us more recognition after the Norte Dame than we've had for years. Enjoy your retirement in peace Mark you have nothing to be ashamed of.
 
I don't think he had it in him anymore. I think he thought if he could coach again, hands on, that the success would return, but that didn't happen. He gave one million dollars of his own money, and was the driving force for the IPF. He beat FSU 2/3 times and they crushed ND. Last year sucked, but he got out when he had to.
 
If you don't think CMR truly wanted what was best for UM you're wrong...the problem is that he's not built to have success these days. You basically have two choices
  1. Sell out in some way, to win. (bags, juice, etc)
  2. Walk away

You're not competing with the big boys without those things.

Maybe he's even more beautiful on the inside than he was on the outside? I know Kenneth watching that jean commercial Rick did on loop for 48 days straight after he came here may have slanted your perception a little but it's still possible.
 
Another reason he walked away is the AD was putting pressure on him to hire a Offensive coordinator and possibly fire his son. Richt is a very stubborn person, so he decided to leave. As far as the money is concerned, we will probably never know for sure because UM is a private school and does not have to release that information to the public.

Most of the dumb****s here would talk about how they didn't have this or that while pointing the fingers at anyone but themselves. They would've stayed until the powers that be forced them out the door with their golden parachute.

He did us a solid, that's what people need to remember him for.

It doesn’t work like that.

The end of last season should’ve been enough for him to realize at the very least he needed to give up control of the offense.

He selfishly decided to not and we wasted a season with an elite defense.

We should’ve won 10-11 games this season.

The players can never get it back.
 
To me all the bad he did TEAM WISE,because most of what he did PROGRAM WISE was first class,got erased when he walked away from that 18 million.Or whatever it was.

The guy could have hung around for another year until they had no choice but to can him,took the remaining 13-14 million or so and crippled the program but he didn’t.He put the U first and gave us a chance to go hire decent coaches to do what he was unable to do and for that his name should be given the highest amount of respect when being talked about.

Don’t know of many human beings on earth that would have done this ( I know NO ONE oN CIS would have and anyone who says different is more full of sHT than an I emptied porta potty) and as we start to ascend to our rightful perch atop of CFB he should always be mentioned as one of the main reasons why we did.
