Vinny T is a ***boi - 86 Orange Bowl v. Oklahoma

I still think the 86 team is the best CFB team of all time. Title or not and I don’t care what the 01 team has to say about it

1986 team was loaded with ballers and alphas. **** of a team.

Hard to not give 2001 the nod with their talent and depth—but that would be a **** of a game to watch.

That 1986 defense would've gotten after Dorsey even worse than Ohio State did in 2002 (albeit the 2001 line was much better than 2002's.)

Bruh, GTFOH. Torretta 100% beats Penn State. We run the ball more, make safer throws and he would’ve had 45 days of playing and practicing with the first team. And we dominated that game on defense, especially. 59 yards passing and 167 total yards! They would’ve been even more fired up knowing they’d have to shoulder more of the load.

You’re insane if you don’t think Torreta couldn’t step in and won that game with all those weapons he had at disposal AND that defense.

Vinny was a one man army that lost that game. There is a reason many people think vinny threw that game. This rumor has been out there for 33 years. We aren’t the only ones saying it on this board

Give me a freaking break.

Torretta played the entire game against East Carolina. We were only up 23-10 halfway through the fourth quarter.

In the second quarter, Torretta had 2 long TDs to Michael Irvin, a 42 yarder and a 50 yarder. With about 5 minutes left in the game, Torretta hit Brett Perriman for a 29 yard TD.

Besides those 3 passes, Torretta went 17/27 for 197 yards and 4 sacks.

AGAINST EAST CAROLINA.

Don't act like Torretta would have been a world-beater against Ped State. And, sure, you're going to give Miami the same running game against Ped State, BUT THAT WAS PREDICATED ON TESTAVERDE PLAYING. There's no way in **** that you just plug in Torretta and get the same rushing attack. If Torretta starts, then Sandusky just tells his defense to hit Highsmith/Bratton all night long instead of Testaverde.

Torretta wasn't winning **** that night....or any other for that matter...

He thinks Geoff Torretta was da gawd. The same Geoff Torretta who struggled to put East Carolina away. At home.

Right. Yeah, Geoff Torretta was going to lead the 86 Canes off the plane in fatigues, and then Geoff was going to torch Sandusky's defense.

Whatever.

Yes, the "simpler" answer is to claim that Testaverde, the upcoming #1 overall pick of the NFL, threw the game for 30 pieces of silver.

Injury. Girlfriend trouble. Long layoff. Senioritis. Upcoming NFL draft. Sandusky's defense.

Plenty of reasons for Vinnie to be rattled.

Lol....and then say that he was terrible against OU.....When he Shredded an OU secondary...absolutely Roasting 87 Thorpe Winner Ricky Dixon for 2 TDs....Lol....(That's Dixon laying in the Dirt)....and a Scramble that practically Won Him a Heisman....

Seriously? That’s where you’re moving the goalpost to? Lol.

Of course Vinny was the better QB. But if you don’t think Stevenson and JJ wouldn’t have had Torretta to play and beat PSU with a full month to prepare, then you don’t really know Miami football as well as you think you do. Torretta was a Senior with many years in that system, with plenty of experience going up against the first team defense, so penn state wouldn’t scare him. That defense was the best defense in CFB history up to that point

Lastly, you declared “Toretta couldn’t beat any team on any night”? YOU wrote that and not anyone else, so own the mistake. History proves you wrong and I provided facts to show it, so you’ll just have to forgive me if I don’t take your opinion seriously at the moment.

Stop this madness.

Where are the "facts" you "provided" to show that Geoff Torretta would have beaten Ped State?

Torretta was a "senior with many years in that system"? What a clown comment. Geoff Torretta started his career at CAL. Then he went to Diablo Valley Community College. Geoff Torretta only spent TWO YEARS at Miami, and he barely ever played.

In Geoff's first year at UM, he threw the ball SIXTEEN times.

In Geoff's final year at UM, he threw the ball FIFTY-NINE times, and 30 of those passes were in his ONE start against East Carolina. That means that for the OTHER TEN GAMES, when Vinnie Testaverde was beating up on other teams and there should have been plenty of playing time for the backup, Torretta got to throw the ball 29 times in those 10 games.

"Plenty of experience going up against the first team defense"? Again, only TWO YEARS at Miami, and back then, the #1 offense went against the #1 defense in practice. So, yeah, almost NO EXPERIENCE going up against the first team defense.

Oh, except for those magical 45 days, when "Coach Stevenson" (and I can only assume you are talking about Gary STEVENS) and JJ (a defensive side coach) would have transformed Geoff Torretta, what with his 2 years of backup work and 75 passing attempts, into the greatest QB of all time.

Look, you don't even know who Gary Stevens is, you don't realize that Geoff Torretta was a JuCo transfer to Miami, and yet you are trying to convince us that you just KNOW that Torretta would have won the game.

****, I'll give you a candy bar if you could even produce the name of Geoff's girlfriend at UM (I'll even spot you her initials, which are D.J.). Also, tell me what she was known for at UM (besides dating Geoff, of course).

This is probably not going to be as juicy as I'm hoping for.

Calm down, man. Relax! You’ve lost your mind over this...have written a treatise over it and are close to having heart palpitations over an opinion on a message board. Why in the world would I know Torrettas GFs name? What kind of question is that to ask a man on a message board. Should I also know Carlos Heurtas daddy’s name?

Relax, bruh! It ain’t that serious.

Many years in the system = more than one under Stevens, which is plenty.

Calm down?

You have used multiple posts to slander Vinnie Testaverde. I have calmly rebutted every one of your wild theories.

Now you're just trying to rehab your false statements, by claiming "many years in the system" means 2 years as a bench-warmer. By that standard, Bar Milo should be a hall-of-famer.

Nice to see you finally learned Gary Stevens' name.

You win, man. Everything I said is wrong. I take it all back. Can we move on? We good now?

I know you’ve got more going on in your life than to get this upset over vinny and Geoff torreta. I know you do, so let’s move on shall we?

He was paid; I don’t care what anyone says. Dude was a Heisman Trophy Winner, and he found some inexplicable way to stall all of our drives. Him, not the team, him. We absolutely smoked PSU that game in every single category. He was gift wrapping ints, throwing it in to triple coverage sometimes.

U don’t go from looking like Tom Brady during the reg season, to NFL Jeff George in the bowl game. Guys we’re running wide open & he chose to throw it in between 2-3 PSU defenders every productive drive? Naw....he was paid off.

He screwed the pooch on Oklahoma, Penn State, and Tennessee.

My stepdad is convinced he was paid off, and swore to me if he ever met VT in person, he'd point blank ask him: "Hey m'fkr, how much did you make to take a dive in the Fiesta Bowl?"

Still trying to figure out how Geoff Torretta got involved in this debate...

Because some genius fans think that Geoff Torretta, a JuCo transfer benchwarmer with 75 passes, two years on the roster, and one emergency start to his name, would have been able to whip #2 Ped State with a few practices and some magical preparation from Gary Stevens(on).

Geoff dated Daphne Jongejans, a 3-time Olympic diver. Her brother Edwin was also on the UM diving team.

U’re dad will be my all time hero if that ever happens.

Here’s my biggest suspicion of it all; VT is a Heisman Trophy winner; he was the #1 overall draft pick, he had a pretty good NFL career.....most of our guys w/ such success, they come back around the program. VT by all accounts have stayed away except for a limited handful. I mean his own son was on the team and dude was barely around.

It’s all speculations, but most feel he threw that game & it’s pretty clear why one would feel that way.
