Video from today’s scrimmage

No he wasnt

Writers on CIS have consistently referred to players as a higher rank than the actually are. In our player database I have tried to make the rating an average of the big 3, but typically they are assigned with the highest rank out of all 3, and if the player us unranked they often get a 4 or 5-star rank.

March 2014 - Unranked

Burns was a talented back his sophomore year, the last year he played. I’m not going to bash him.

But Broke, there you go again. Pete is not a ranking service and neither are his tweets.

espn had him as high as #7 overall at one point and a 5 star

The rankings obviously changed but at one point he was rated that high by espn

this board constantly overhyped kids. Perry will be day 1 starter, Trayone Gray will be better than yearby, etc,

He was a defintiely a 5 star on 247 after his freshman season

That's ancient history. An awful lot happened (and didn't happen) between then and when he arrived on campus.

I'm not a huge fan of recruiting "experts" ratings. But if you're going to use them, the only fair way to do it is to cite where a kid was ranked just before arriving on campus.

Some kids are physically mature and look like Five stars as H.S. Freshman only to not develop in the ensuing years. And some kids develop all of a sudden as H.S. Seniors (or later).

Don’t sleep on burns, lot of sh*t happened of course as far as injuries goes but the kid is still very talented and he tested as an elite athlete with a spark rating of 118 5’11 206 4.57 in his sophomore or junior year

As far back as I can find he was only a 4 star on the wayback machine. Even SOTU calls him a "once high 4 star"

I do not believe he was ever a 5 star. If anything you could say he had 5 star potential his freshman year, but that applies to a lot of players.

Again I’m just relaying what espn had him at one point when he was rated the #1 back in the country and number 7 overall

"Because we’ve never seen him play"

"He’s not a five star talent imo but he could be a good contributor"

These two statements contradict each other

Not really , if he was a five star talent he’d be a five star. Nothing about him is elite. He’s nowhere near a duke or Lingard type. Never was.

I know you’re trying to be Mr smart *** but the poster I responded to said he was a five star at one time.

I am not doubting that, but he still wasn't a five star. Ratings from early high school kids change a lot. Kids that live in places like Miami get seen earlier because they are in a large city and likely play with older players that scouts are seeing. He quickly fell from those rankings, and yeah he had an injury, but he still fell.

You only see what they show you as do anyone else. You can look through any qb film thorough practices and pick and choose bad film. That’s just the reality of the situation
Dude. The more you talk the dumber you sound. Yes. The University crew is showing me the 2 or 3 throws they want me to see, so if anyone is biased it’s the film edit team. Now you can either chose to believe that they edited in the 2 or 3 best plays, or you can continue to be a dumbass believing that they chose poor throws to highlight when better throws were available.

Why in the world would they show incompletions from one QB, **** all of them had incompletions.

Why would they show incompletions period, seems strange.

You’re 100% correct.

I like him, he has a ton of talent along with a ton of bad luck. But this 5 Star mythology has built up without one shred of documentation except people saying and tweeting he was ranked this or that.

Unless someone shows me a service where he was ranked 5 Star at any time, it’s just projection. Four star, yes, you can find that.
