valentine on why he chose L$U

Regardless of what anyone thinks, he DID make the right decision.

If you're a DT looking to get to the NFL, do you play for a perennial top 10 defense that is constantly losing DTs to the NFL........or Dorito pattycake defense?

There are five DT's from LSU on current NFL rosters and Ricky Jean Francois is the closest any of them come to being productive. Dorsey has been a huge bust.

none of that matters.

first of all it is not the college uniform that makes a kid great or bust in the NFL. It is the person/player that matters.

These kids don't really understand that or if they do it gets drowned out by coaches promoting past players/NFL draftees.

In reality the only thing that matters is that LSU has a track record of getting DT's drafted in the first round. What they do after the draft...who cares. If anything what you are saying helps LSU's case...they can say we had guys not talented to last in the NFL still get drafted in the first round. That they get the most out of talent, etc.

Anyone who doesn't think the scheme is costing us some recruits needs their head examined.

I'm not saying money isn't being thrown around...it's college football, money is always flying under the table.

But the simple fact you have to be explaining to kids how your defense gave up 500+ yards in 7 straight games, ranked statistically toward the bottom in all of division 1, and failed to make any sort of adjustments is a tough sell.

Oh...and losing to Duke by double digits, losing to VT by double digits (at home), winning a squeaker against a bad Wake Forest team, and getting trounced by the 18th best team in the country even after having 30 days to prepare for that game?

Yeah....if you don't think for one second that what I've just paraphrased isn't being used word for word against us by every opposing coach who we're going head to head with for a recruit....well then you're living in fantasyland.

A crappy defense used to mean nothing but opportunity for early playing time for most kids. Our defense is so bad that kids use it as an excuse to not come here.

Can't really fault him for anything he said. Bash him if you want but the kid is going to a defense that fits his ability better.

So the kid didn't want the pressure of being the "man" here and it all being on his shoulders, but this was a business decision? Someone let the young man know with business comes pressure. Does he really think coaches and fans are going to be chummy chummy with him now that he has signed? They will ride his @#$ just like the others now

yep, pizza parties, cookie cakes and bowling. Can't blame TV at all for going to a DT factory like LSU. He'll be a 1st rounder in 3 years

A DT factory??? They have like six DT's in the NFL. Probably the most successful is Ricky Jean Francois who would have been a Cane if he could spell his name and hardly played at LSU due to academics. Dorsey was a #1 pick and has been a major bust in the league. Brockers at St.L is the only other one with much production the last couple of years.

Thank you!!! that comment had me p**sed off!!!

"When I took my official there, that's when I knew that's where I wanted to go," he said. "Miami is more fun and games while LSU is more business. *It's really just a business decision and I think I made the right one for me and my family. My mom and I talked this thing through, we slept on it and we felt like LSU was the best place for us."

Immature and classless....

Needs to take a look at the graduation rates, especially for football players and he would not make such a dumb statement. IMO Grades and Money.

He cited the scheme a couple months ago. No one wanted to believe him. Al Golden had his chance and failed miserably. Don't blame the kid for wanting to play for an aggressive defense that puts kids in the league. Had Al handled his business, things might have been different.

What bu$ine$$ are you referring to? Turning a kid and his "coach" to UM for the right reasons?

The kid was basically handed a starting job, short of miserably failing. He was told by Golden and everybody else that the defense needs a dominating DT to steal the show and demonstrate how aggressive this defense COULD be....

So what you must be saying is that TV believed Golden was lying, and that upon arrival in CG, Golden and Dorito would slowly begin the mind erasing / altering process designed to keep TV in check, thereby becoming the read and react passive drooling punching bag they envisioned him to be?!?!

Sorry, I'll go with scheme and PSU as distraction$ for $35,000.00 Bob...

UM
Firing his boy and going with a scheme that maximizes South Florida players abilities. Everything else is bull**** excuses. Genron, money, etc all bull****. All recruits get paid something, but the kid was committed to Miami and then the Duke game happened. Bury your heads in the sand, but the defense and Golden refusing to change his scheme and fire his friend cost us this recruit and I wouldn't be surprised if it cost us others.

I'm positive some here are trolling.

Who ******* cares if LSU guys are busts? Those dudes got paid, which I'm sure matters. They can point to players they develop every year. Golden has produced 2 NFL DTs in a about 10 years.

Our last 1st round DT was Wilfork, in 2004, when Valentine was probably 9 years old. Who are our "legend" DTs posters are talking about? Guys like Jerome Brown and Cortez Kennedy's NFL careers were over before Valentine was born.

Any excuse to cover the staff.

Not sure how any parent of a recruit that plays D can support going to Miami at this point.

A lot of NFL 3-4 defenses 2 gap. Didn't mean he couldn't be aggressive here. Make his read, shed his block and get upfield. Our guys were just slow shedding blocks and LBers waited on the play making it worse.
Better personnel in front 7 and suddenly the D looks aggressive.

This guy is a joke!!! LSU is all business and UM is fun and games???? FOH!!! He is officially on my most hated list from So Fla....look for him to flip from LSU his soph yr.
Why you hate a 18 yo kid who has done nothing to you???? Why not celebrate whose here and signed..smh

So he's immature because he wants to go some place in his mind, more mature? Makes sense. If he committed to Miami, said they were all business and that LSU was fun and games you'd be thumping your chest about it.

That's my point!! LSU has not produced any top DTs on the next level. Yeah they make it to the league, but that's it. UM have provided far and beyond more impact DTs throughout our history than LSU...they too run a "scheme" that works for college and their players falter on the next level.

I don't get this....most of the impact DT's we put in the NFL are retired and have nothing to do with the crap defense we put out now.

We put Kosar, Kelly, Testaverde, and Walsh in the NFL too! We should be getting all the best QB's!

Our guys couldn't diagnose a cold let alone which hole to fill in the run fits.

Sean Spence was about the same size as Jimmy Gaines and probably about the same athletic profile. Sean could just read it faster, while Gaines couldn't see crap

All these guys see is LSU playing in big games, names getting called at the draft, but no, Miami is the best place for him
