valentine on why he chose L$U

I'm sorry but that actually makes a lot of sense. Is there any doubt he's going to become a much better player there than he would here?
Nope, not right now sadly. I'm not "happy" for this kid or rooting for him going forward. Not by any means. But I can't say I blame him either. All we can offer any DT w/ questions about us right now are words. "Hope." There's literally no track record of Canes DT's making plays under this staff. Not consistently. So honestly I feel we're lucky to "close" like we did. I say "closed" but "held on" is really more appropriate. But still I'd say it's almost better than we deserved right now.

yep, pizza parties, cookie cakes and bowling. Can't blame TV at all for going to a DT factory like LSU. He'll be a 1st rounder in 3 years

and won't do **** in the NFL thereafter.... either way, this is not the "i like the scheme better" that everyone else has been pumping.

DT factory???? Name one impact D line player from LSU in the NFL today??
Glenn Dorsey niners and he means they produce 1st rounders. what they do in the NFL is a different story

That's my point!! LSU has not produced any top DTs on the next level. Yeah they make it to the league, but that's it. UM have provided far and beyond more impact DTs throughout our history than LSU...they too run a "scheme" that works for college and their players falter on the next level.

getting players to the NFL is all that matters. Once in the league that is on the player.

He cited the scheme a couple months ago. No one wanted to believe him. Al Golden had his chance and failed miserably. Don't blame the kid for wanting to play for an aggressive defense that puts kids in the league. Had Al handled his business, things might have been different.

What bu$ine$$ are you referring to? Turning a kid and his "coach" to UM for the right reasons?

The kid was basically handed a starting job, short of miserably failing. He was told by Golden and everybody else that the defense needs a dominating DT to steal the show and demonstrate how aggressive this defense COULD be....

So what you must be saying is that TV believed Golden was lying, and that upon arrival in CG, Golden and Dorito would slowly begin the mind erasing / altering process designed to keep TV in check, thereby becoming the read and react passive drooling punching bag they envisioned him to be?!?!

Sorry, I'll go with scheme and PSU as distraction$ for $35,000.00 Bob...

Was always an uphill battle with Genron involved. Don't think he even had to be paid but think Coley/Bennett in reverse.

1. Coaches do sometimes exaggerate to try and get recruits to come. Whether he did or not I do not know, but it does happen.
2. Our initial responsibility for our DT's to engage the OL, take up space, and hold the LOS. It is not to attack the gap, disrupt, and penetrate. Now, if it is a pass play they are supposed to try and beat their man, after first locking up with them, and somehow get to the QB. It is much, much harder to successfully passrush as a DT when you are not aggressively attacking the gap. If all you want to do as a DT is manhug the OL all day, by all means play in Doritos scheme. If you want to get a rep for passrushing, you go somewhere else like LSU.
3. DT's with a rep for being successful disrupters/passrushers tend to get drafted higher as they make more of a splash in the college level.

LSU total defense rank the last 4 years averages 13th in the country.

12 defensive players drafted in the first 3 rounds the last 3 years.

They play aggressive. Every year LSU has a hard-hitting, attacking defense. Our last 6 games we allowed almost 500 yards a game and 37 points per game.

Put the conspiracy theories aside and look at what's in front of you.

Who cares? I'm a college football fan (as most other people on this site). I only care about what players do on Saturdays, not Sundays.

I'll take a Miami team full of college All-Americans that bust in the NFL all day. That being said, it's nice that UM players become NFL Pro Bowlers and Hall of Famers, but that has ZERO impact on the Miami Hurricanes football team.

My point is, why go to a school (LSU) who produce bust when u can stay home and play for a school (UM) who produce legends. The kid said he's a big Vince Wilfork fan but goes to a school who has produced Glenn Dorsey??? That's my point. He would've established his own legacy and continued in a tradition that's provided the NFL w some all time greats instead of flipping to a school who have traditionally produced all time bust!

His mom loved Miami until she met Les Miles and then she was comfortable with LSU.....interesting

Anyone who doesn't think the scheme is costing us some recruits needs their head examined.

I'm not saying money isn't being thrown around...it's college football, money is always flying under the table.

But the simple fact you have to be explaining to kids how your defense gave up 500+ yards in 7 straight games, ranked statistically toward the bottom in all of division 1, and failed to make any sort of adjustments is a tough sell.

Oh...and losing to Duke by double digits, losing to VT by double digits (at home), winning a squeaker against a bad Wake Forest team, and getting trounced by the 18th best team in the country even after having 30 days to prepare for that game?

Yeah....if you don't think for one second that what I've just paraphrased isn't being used word for word against us by every opposing coach who we're going head to head with for a recruit....well then you're living in fantasyland.

A DT factory??? They have like six DT's in the NFL. Probably the most successful is Ricky Jean Francois who would have been a Cane if he could spell his name and hardly played at LSU due to academics. Dorsey was a #1 pick and has been a major bust in the league. Brockers at St.L is the only other one with much production the last couple of years.

Compare LSU DTs to Miami DTs in the last several years, how many have gone to the NFL, the notoriety that LSU defense gets in the media, etc. DOn't be blind to the actual situation. And stop living in the past (I know he said he wanted to be like one of them, but that's not the point here).

He'll transfer after one year guaranteed. #SketchBall

I agree. The non-believers have sour grapes since we didn't win this kid. With our scheme, why would any highly rated DT want to come here? Does not compute. And we really need to quit it with the money excuses also. We did that and it didn't work because our coaching staffs have and continue to suck at developing players. Until we get a Howard, Jimmy or Butch clone walking through that door, we will be mired in mediocrity in all respects.

I could have sworn that Moten was also a highly rated DT who said the scheme was attractive to him.
