You could tell Meyer wanted more advanced kids when Ohio State started recruiting Bishop Gorman heavily. That is probably the most advanced high school program in the country. The Buckeyes got the jump. Ohio State stuck their receivers coach and ace recruiter on the Bishop Gorman beat. I doubt it's much of a coincidence that our best true freshman recently was from Bishop Gorman
Las Vegas is not fixated on national titles. That is one huge difference between when I talked sports there as opposed to online forums or fan conversation in general elsewhere. I guess the people who operate out of that city see thousands of games per year in all sports combined, so there is greater understanding of the random nature.
You guys will say anything. Ohio State has
TWO Bishop Gorman enrollees this
DECADE: Haskell Garrett and Tate Martell. They have four STA enrollees this decade. How much more advanced is Haskell Garrett that he only has 19 tackles in his past two seasons? We have more Bishop Gorman kids than they do. One could argue the two Bosa brothers were the most impactful players for OSU this decade. From 2010-2018 OSU's Florida haul included south Florida standouts Joey Bosa, Nick Bosa, Johnnie Dixon, James Louis, Torrance Gibson, Trevon Grimes, Damon Arnette, and plenty of Florida kids like Nicholas Petit-Frere, James Clark, Shaun Wade, Brian Snead and a few IMG kids. Urban is doing what he always does: saying one thing and doing the complete opposite.
The icing on the cake of your post is assuming because they aren't fixated on national titles they are developing better players.
STA players in college > Bishop Gorman players in college
STA players in the NFL > Bishop Gorman players in the NFL
Dudes will talk about anything except the results to shade south Florida and Florida players. South Florida had 5 first rounders in 2019 that included a mix of public (Baker, Bush) and private school players (Burns, Bosa, and Brown's last 2 years). What they lack in
"discipline" they make up for in toughness, playmaking, motor, and everything else 100x over. And it's impossible to suggest that their toughness doesn't come from the pressure the coaches put on them since Optimist. I'll take the
"undisciplined" players who are tough as nails and want to win over the maxed out Haskell Garrett's every day of the week.
