Not a great job but a glamour job. His reason, a lot of Florida HS players are developmental players due to the coaching they receive in High School compared to the LA, Georgia, Ohio areas. He spoke on the high school coaches in some of those areas being paid more. Paid more as we all know sometimes equals higher quality.

Could this be a reason why a lot of our players are actually better in the NFL and don’t develop as much in school. Yes, some of it is on the coaching staffs we have had over the years.

Btw, this was say on Colin Cowherd show.

yeah i,m at work listening to sirius xm, i heard it too. made alot of sense.

Was just going to post this.

Colin Cowherd and Urban were discussing glamour jobs versus really amazing jobs in college football.

Stated schools like USC and Georgia who Colin describes as glamour jobs are amazing jobs because they have elite talent that’s developed, while FSU/UF/UM are somewhat glamour jobs because Florida athletes can be more raw.

Not entirely wrong, but if you’re gonna call OSU an amazing job (which he did of course), then so are the Florida schools because even with underdeveloped talent it’s still a better talent base than the Ohio area.

Miami does require a certain kind of person though, other jobs can be done by pretty much everyone if competent. Miami requires a unique person and skill set.

Look at the level of coaching at some flagship schools like Deerfield and you can see what urban is taking about.

I see what he's saying, but I'm not sure I agree about Florida players being developmental bc of coaching. Perhaps in terms of size and strength and conditioning, but that's about it. There's this myth out there that the coaches down here just rely on athleticism and don't know their X's and O's, and nothing can be further from the truth. Everytime one of these "developmental" high schools with the HC who's also the school's front security guard plays a school from Texas or Ohio with a HC who does nothing but coach and makes more than the principal, the Florida school seems to win.

You even see it when the big time private schools play the public powers down here. These coaches ain't dumb. They may not be the most articulate, but they know football.

It's an interesting viewpoint if true. Have Florida high school football programs lost ground to/fallen behind the high school football programs in other populated states around the country? The state of Florida won seven national championships from 1980 to 1999, but only four from 2000 to 2019.

This quote is confusing.

Can you post the clip?
He was asked about schools being great jobs or glamour jobs( schools where the name makes people think it's a great but actually not). He said Miami and FSU are glamour because the recruits in the state of florida are under develop. Mainly because of what the public school pay coaches/ quality of coaches which led to under development of the players.

Dumbest horseshat i've heard or would believe coming from oscar cryer. If that's the case, than explain all the highschool championships and *** whoopings our highschools give out to schools across the nation if our coaches dont know WTF they doing. The only bad coaching that has been going on in Miami over the last 15 or so years(with the exception of the coach richt era) has been at UM. You gots to be stupid AF to say the guys getting consistent championships are getting the bad coaching, lol. Than that **** named 3 states that(if he's talking about Los Angeles) that barely win national championships. Im glad he doesnt want to come to UM, that would be a tradgedy and would be further proof the Soul of UM would be all the way gone at that point. Now that hire by Fsu, that's a better and smarter move for them, got a guy that has excelled as a headcoach in the American West conference, got a guy that has proved himself at that level and could very well began to get Fsu established again. One things for certain, they'll have an identity.

Florida athletes are making big plays all across the country every Saturday.

Our shltty staffs are the only guys struggling to get them to consistently produce.
What I'm saying. Sure these south florida kids may be entitled more than others, but theyll **** sure perform under the right guidance.

Short version: so fl HS coaching sucks compared to higher paid coaching in other football factory areas. Not new. Our success was from making up for that with great player development by JJ and Butch and their staffs. Those teams' players came out like third year NFL players and were the official default choice. When team didn't know who to pick you always took the Cane coming out at that position because they started like a 2nd and 3 rd year play not rookie. Today, our guys go lower in draft as bargains because they are less developed than other rookies.

A lot of picks from other schools don't make it because they have no upside left. Many maxed out in HS. We use to have coaching staffs on the way to NFL jobs. Now we have guys who would have trouble coaching HC in GA.
