I got 79 including those 4:

QB: 4
RB/FB: 5
WR: 9 incl Few
TE: 5
OL: 15 incl James LS
DL: 16
LB: 10 incl Frierson/Finley
DB: 13 incl J.Murphy/D. Smith
Spec: 2

Nailed it. I forgot all about James at LS.

WR would definitely be a "major" hole without JK. Who is currently our 3rd best WR? Pope? Hightower? Wiggins? None of those guys are remotely proven. Not to mention there is unfortunately a decent chance that JT doesn't finish the season with the team, based on his history of quitting on teams (IIRC, last year was the 3rd time he's done so, going back to his HS days).

He's also been very good at ST throughout his career, and by all accounts has provided great leadership, in what is otherwise a very immature position group. He's as important an addition as we had this off-season.

Should have stopped after your first sentence.

Tommy Kennedy's lack of success at Miami reinforces my point by providing a stark contract with Osborn. Unlike Kennedy, Osborn has come in and impressed: in work outs, in scrimmages and the spring game, in team meetings, everywhere. If we were raving about all of the transfers, that would call into question whether we're just inflating our guys. But Osborn has distinguished himself.

There is a question as to how his game will translate, sure, but it's not "absolutely no idea". That's hyperbole. On the other hand, we have "absolutely no idea" how Hightower will develop. All of the hype around him is due to 1 single garbage time TD in week 1. With Osborn, we have a pretty good idea that he'll be at least a competent, 400+ yard type of receiver.

It does not "reinforce your point" whatsoever. You said he was a "proven" player. He has "proven" himself on Greentree, as Hightower has.

Apparently buffalo receiver core must have been really talented last year considering 3 returning receivers transferred to power 5 schools already including kJ Osborn

KJ didn't even lead Buffalo in receiving last year. I'm not against the guy whatsoever, hopefully he adds something to the group. Just not sure how he's this "proven player" filling a "major hole".

So first I'm against the portal, next I'm a groupie for one of the portal players. Good for you. Having depth or a plan B is a good thing. Having a "major hole" is something different.

What on earth are you talking about? Have another crack at it and tell me if that’s what I said.

And all your big talk about the state of the team when Manny received it is complete revisionism now that nothing but good news is being reported. Why don't you rewind yourself back to January 2nd, when the QB position was undoubtedly considered a major hole, when our only good WR was transferring to Illinois and it took Manny to convince him to come back. Or how everyone was petrified of what the loss of Willis would do to the DT position because we had to rely on unproven 3* guys and Nesta to replace him.

Manny had to put on a superman cape to save this season. Both with the portal and the coaching staff he brought on board. To think Richt had things under control and passed him the team that has us all excited right now is retarded and ignorant of the hard work Manny has done.

So how many we can take this cycle like at least 27?
At least.
5 spots open
14 seniors
JT gone = 20
~2 of (garvin, navaughn bandy dallas) leave early
2 qbs transfer out
1 wr transfers out (harley)
1 ol transfers out (dykstra)
someone else breaks their neck and we've got 27

Bringing back JT is a completely different story. That WAS filling a major hole (that he had left), I'd absolutely agree with that.

We have no idea who's going to start at QB, partly because Martell isn't clearly better than Perry/Williams, who are all learning a new system. I have no idea how else to say it, but these guys are not filling "major holes" if they haven't even proven themselves to be starters yet. If they start, then great, job well done, go beat the Gators. But they aren't these all-world players replacing walk-ons. The only one I'm actually "excited" about would be Tate, and that's only because of his dual-threat ability and the mismatches Enos could create for him. If I had to bet, I'd say he and Osborn would be the only ones out of the portal players starting on 8/24.
