I truly believe that when this NCAA crap hit the fan, Al's attorney basically told the school that withholding all or part of this Shapiro situation was grounds for Golden to tear up his contract and sue them for big damages, and that they'd better pony up, or else. AG is not getting fired this year. If he doesn't win next year, UM may let him go.

If we get lucky another team will steal him away, but why would any decent team want him?
Maybe a team like Oregon State but any team that expects to win wouldn't touch him.

For the immediate future, at least the next season, AG is UM's coach. And I doubt he will make staff changes unless someone leaves on their own.

If you know the elements of fraudulent inducement, you know you don't have to affirmatively make a misrepresentation to somebody. An omission of a material fact will suffice as well. In other words, you don't have to tell a lie. Intentionally failing to disclose something important and material to whether the person would sign the contract would be the same thing. Remember at the time the Shapiro mess really hit the fan? What was everyone was saying? "This is not what Al Golden signed up for." What do you think that little euphemism meant? In the "real" legal world, I mean.

Do I know whether Golden's attorney actually approached the BOT and threatened to sue? No. But is it out of the realm of believability that in addition to wanting to make a gesture of "good will", the University gave Al an extension with an eye towards minimizing their liability? If you don't think Golden had the right to rescind his contract at that time, based on not being told about the Shapiro scandal ahead of time, well, I don't know what to say to you.

Disputed or not, if it meant that an NCAA investigation was on the way, he'd have a right to know about it. Whether it was public knowledge at the time Al signed his contract, I don't know. I just remember the narrative at the time being that Al was blindsided by this, and what a good soldier he was for sticking with us. Which, btw, would also support the notion that he was well within his rights to walk away from the program at that point. I'm sure a lot of us wish he had, in hindsight.

Even if it takes new leadership that comes in 18 months from now, we're always a 2-3 year window from being truly competitive just because of our geography and history. The second we can back up "we're investing in the program to once again rise to dominance like in the 80s, early 90s and early 00s," a new generation of instagrammers and young players fueled by being popular will jump aboard.

All it takes is one good decision to start it. A couple ******* steps to get it moving quickly.
