Update - Clarification from David Lake, 247 TODAY

The only things we know for sure is the incompetent UM AD is gone and a new one is needed. Everything else is speculative bull****.

What needs to happen, should happen, and I’m somewhat surprised hasn’t happened, is the President of the University of Miami should make a public statement concerning the current status of the AD search. We’ve seen many times in the past university presidents make public statements in these situations. The AD search is currently the most pressing issue and a public statement would quell many of the rumors.

Included in that statement, comments about the status of the head football coach should also be addressed due to all the speculation concerning Manny’s tenure and future.

In my view, Frenk not publicly addressing these issues tells me he’s either unaware of the chatter, or it’s not high on his priority list, a holiday is near, or a combination of these and other factors.

If this "public statement" is as poorly written as Frenk's last public statement, let's try something different instead.

Of course it makes sense. Argument between Frenk and Blake. Frenk fired that bum and put the two guys in charge of charting the way forward. Manny is toast. His position is untennable. He will be fired Sunday. With or without an AD. Frenk can fire Diaz himself.

Wait? Mario drove in a van from Oregon?

Thats a straight through 50 hour drive. Best case scenario is three days down here and then three days up. Is that what you’re saying? Or whoevet those people are is that what they’re saying? It’s either the weirdest conspiracy ever or just a funny joke.

Hoya... good cliffs notes...

Think through this (I've seen this far too many times)...

I've said before its all about options to the BoT level...

If Lake's reporting is accurate, I'd speculate the BoT is giving the appearance of staying out of it to "get their cake and eat it too". Why...

1) Frenk, advisors, and new AD make a homerun decision whatever it is (keep Manuela and he restores Miami, fire Manuela and X coach restores Miami)... at the victory parade, BoT can say "we had confidence in Frenk and his decision led us to this day... rah... rah.... rah"

2) Frenk, advisors, and new AD make what proves to be a disasterous decision whatever it is (keep Manuela and he further fails, fire Manuela and X coach fails to restore Miami)... at the coroner's post-mortem press conference, BoT can say "we allowed Frenk to make the call, unfortunately it didn't work out along with several other questionable decisions throughout his tenure, we wish him well in his future endeavours and our thorough national search for his replacement begins immediately. So and so will serve as interim Univ Prez..."

This way, BoT members reduce their exposure to one another in/by taking opposite positions until they know they have a clean kill...
Love ya Empi, but in regards to (1) keeping Manuela is no homerun. It's the equivalent of whiffing on a 3-2 pitch while getting beaned in the head by pitch and going down with season ending injury

From Atlanta? Or Orlando? Or "any airport not named MIA"?

Just a thought...

This post by Lake violates the Golden Rule: “Those who have the Gold make the Rules.”

The notion that Julio Frenk is acting as some sort of Rebel Without A Clause who is going to go out and select someone that the Board Whales might not want is passing strange. The Board Whales are the ones who are bringing in the Deep Pocket Money to juice the Program (as well as the rest of Athletics). The notion that Fenk would ignore them is borderline laughable.

It didn’t say anywhere that Frenk was ignoring them, and I expect fully the people that are going to foot the bill to have major input. But that’s not going to be advertised.

Frenk should just come out and say “I have determined that we need a cultural change within our athletic department. We are going in a new direction. We will be thorough and diligent in our search for an AD who can return our athletic programs to national prominence. This includes an enhanced commitment at the highest levels to provide the resources needed to suceed at the desired level. Whomever is hired, will be afforded the discretion to make whatever changes are deemed necessary, including personnel decisions. We already have some outstanding candidates, who we are vetting, and we believe a decision on that will come fairly quickly. In the meantime, we respectfully ask for patience during this process.
