University School vs Homestead Game Thread (11AM ESPNU)

I used Coley as an example of being a killer. Two different things. I've seen nothing from TODAY'S game that shows Ermon Lane comes close to that mindset.

No one is saying he isn't talented, though he doesn't pop in and out of his cuts to the level he was billed. He's not this other-wordly talent that stands 3 cuts above the competition. That doesn't mean he won't do very well in college. It means I think you and Pete fell in love with this guy too early.

Check back with me in three years. I still believe he will be an absolute star in college.

Homestead can't get him the ball because the OL is overmatched. If he switched uniforms (or commitments), we'd all be singing a different tune. I agree that he's not elite in-and-out of his breaks. That's his biggest weakness and the reason why Stacey Coley is the better player. But he is phenomenal at everything else and has proven it over the course of his career.

I won't need to check back with you at all because I haven't said he isn't talented or that he won't be a "star." You guys billed him as this superhuman talent. Based on previous reviews, I was straight up expecting something different.

Thats a GREAT out. LOL.

No it isn't. The argument wasn't whether he would be a star. The argument was whether he would be some type of transcendent player like some people here evaluated him as. That doesn't appear to be the case right now. That goes for talent and for mindset.

So Lane can turn out to be a star and we still fell in love with him too early? That's moving the goalpost to Antartica.

I billed him as the fourth best player in South Florida on the thread that is stickied to the top. Let's see if he lives up to that billing. After his ridiculous sophomore film and performance against Northwestern, I thought he had a chance to be the best player in the state. I've since downgraded him a little the more I have watched him, as you can see by that ranking. But I have no doubt that he will be a star if he stays healthy.

Falling in love with him too early was a comment about him being this other-worldly WR. If you've now downgraded him, I think that's appropriate and that's my point.

The irony of you accusing me of moving the goalposts while openly stating your evaluation of him is evolving (as it should be with what he shows) is fantastic stuff.

When was this 10.6 100 that Scarlett ran? Man, that kid is muscled. What kind of nutrition and weight program do that have at U School? A lot of these kids are very developed physically.

Never ran a 10.6

He won't top 4.55 at the opening next year

An elite player, ranked second at his position in the country, should easily dominate in this game. Lane has done anything but dominate. He just strikes me as a major project from a mental standpoint. This guy may be talented, but he's far from a huge loss. I'd rather have Dixon, Langham, or Rudolph.

But did Dixon dominate yesterday against central? No because of multiple factors. Same thing lane is dealing with today. Your reasoning doesn't hold true. It's one thing to think the latter are better prospects, another thing to have faulty reasoning.

While Dixon didn't dominate he did flash the ability by abusing Deatrick repeatedly. What ability has Lane shown you today except the play where he burned Quincy Wilson and was over thrown. I'm never going to judge a player off of 1 game but Dixon made you take notice of him yesterday. I'll re-evaluate all of our commits and targets after their respective seasons.

Right now I'm trusting the staff. Yeah Lane and Scarlett haven't had great games but that doesn't mean they won't over the course of the season. They just haven't been impressive TODAY. Also speaking of commits I read our boy Gray balled out Friday Night for Carol City. Also read that he didn't start the first half due to some academic issues from the herald.

Bold contradicts itself, & I agree with italicized/underlined

I could have worded that better. I will wait to their season's are finished to say who is better than who and who is underrated. As far as the game goes Lane and Dixon both had bad games but Dixon at least flashed a little something. This is my first time watching Lane so I was expecting to see something similar to the 26 yards per catch he had. Then again Lane only had 30 receptions last year so that tells me he wasn't getting the ball like that anyway.

Is is bad to expect Dominance from 5 star recruits? I.E. Lane, Lorenzo Carter. ect I mean Cook and Yearby showed us what they were about yesterday. You see I mentioned Cook so I'm not wearing Orange and Green Shades. I respect the great players. If I see a guy not living up to expectations I'm calling him out. This is why they release final recruiting rankings at the end of the season.

Thats a GREAT out. LOL.

It's not an out at all because I've never really taken a stance on Lane. I haven't/hadn't watched enough of him to give anything of substance. He was straight up billed as possibly the best WR ever coming out of SoFla. He was most definitely billed as a superhuman talent. I'm saying I don't see that level. I had no idea D$ had "downgraded" his view on Lane because I didn't remember his rankings.

I now see why Booker T don't allow there players to play 7 on 7 in the summer. I think a team like Homestead would benefit greatly if there top players (Ermon) would play with them during the summer. Helps build that continuity that all teams need.

He ran a 10.8 last year. Might not be elite track time but thats great for a soph rb pushing 200 pounds. Since he is a football player I will take it. If he works at it he can get to 10.6 easy by the time he leaves high school.

Is Lane really any better of a prospect than this guy?

He looks more explosive in this video.

For those that missed the game.
Sean White Threw 3 or 4 TDs 3 INT's
Ermon Lane 4 receptions for 42 yards. 39 yard Punt Return
Jordan Scarlett went over 100 yards with a TD.
Chris Taylor had 3 TD receptions
Quincy Wilson had a Pick 6.
Sam Bruce is a baller.

I thought Bruce was the most impressive to watch in this game.

I was pretty impressed with Sean White. Despite the mistakes, his release is compact, his footwork is tight, and he continues to remind me of Gary Nova.

Just a good, solid prospect.

LU you always like Nova correct?

Seem to reference him alot.

Seems like he's been at RU for 6 years already and hes only a junior. My dad and bro are Rutgers Season Ticket Holders. Dad can't stand him as a QB. But I think hes a solid QB, a pretty good game manager.

Was not impressed with Lane, usually when u see a top prospect they jump off your screen (chad Thomas and Treon Harris last night for example)

I couldn't even tell at times if Lane was even out there

I only reference him w/r/t Sean White because they seem so similar to me in terms of style.

Bicho gets it.

I will Ermon the benefit of the doubt. He has skinny legs and it looks like he played dinged up after getting whacked.

But I will take Langham and be more than happy thank you.
