ive been saying this and am getting louder in the message - this works for saban because he’s a great *manager*. People look for all the wrong traits in cfb head coaches. it’s nice you were a good dc, mr diaz (if that), but that’s no longer your job and if you spend your time doing that, your taking your time away from other areas that need time and attention.Saban is so good that he can plug just about anyone into that role and they'd still roll, but Gase would be an awful hire. Bad coach, bad comportment.
any head coach that wants to double as a coordinator should be fired for not understanding their own job.
any AD who hires a coach who wants to double as a coordinator should be fired for not understanding the role he’s filling.
time itself is scarce but can be wasted in many ways, so freeing it up is just a start - you need to learn what to do with it. the magic is how you manage, focus, prioritize, supervise and provide quality control and feedback.
this program would do well to hire a terrific change management consulting firm to rip it apart and rebuild it from the ground up and provide a blueprint of how to operate. then hire a manager to run football ops who has a top management training environment background and leadership experience. Make that a real job that works with AD and Head Corch and pays well enough to be attractive to someone good.
