Two Former NFL Head Corches With No Pride

Saban is so good that he can plug just about anyone into that role and they'd still roll, but Gase would be an awful hire. Bad coach, bad comportment.
ive been saying this and am getting louder in the message - this works for saban because he’s a great *manager*. People look for all the wrong traits in cfb head coaches. it’s nice you were a good dc, mr diaz (if that), but that’s no longer your job and if you spend your time doing that, your taking your time away from other areas that need time and attention.

any head coach that wants to double as a coordinator should be fired for not understanding their own job.

any AD who hires a coach who wants to double as a coordinator should be fired for not understanding the role he’s filling.

time itself is scarce but can be wasted in many ways, so freeing it up is just a start - you need to learn what to do with it. the magic is how you manage, focus, prioritize, supervise and provide quality control and feedback.

this program would do well to hire a terrific change management consulting firm to rip it apart and rebuild it from the ground up and provide a blueprint of how to operate. then hire a manager to run football ops who has a top management training environment background and leadership experience. Make that a real job that works with AD and Head Corch and pays well enough to be attractive to someone good.

Undoubtedly. Recall all the times during the Coker, Shannon, Golden, Richt era that we were on pins and needles on who would be DC or OC. We believed that it mattered and that a coordinator would be the difference maker in the W-L column. For the great coaches, it doesn't matter. They win regardless. Sure, there are bumps here and there. They have good and bad hires too. But the product on the field is always more than passable.

Unfortunately, for the program, Manny has no prior experience in this regard. He's still learning. I think he's smart enough to get it but he needs to figure this out quickly. He'll be here next year; whether he can pick this up will likely determine whether he gets a 4th year.

BTW, the more I've thought about the "chief of staff role," the more I've come to believe Reed's role in that position is a disservice both to Manny and E Reed. Ideally, for Manny's sake, you'd have someone in that role who is experienced with the operational/administrative tasks; and can ensure those things are taken care of so Manny and the coaches can focus on recruiting and coaching; and can also oversee the coaching staff and observe who is/isn't pulling their weight. Ideally, this would be a more senior official. Ed is not that guy. I want Ed on this staff in any capacity whatsoever, but something more fluid for him would be better, considering he's not even in town every day. Make Ed an adviser to HC or "recruiting liason" or some other catchy title but IMO, this just isn't a good fit.

Serious question, is Bama football the #1 de facto for-profit organization in that state? At this point, the special interests must be so deeply rooted that they can't afford to lose.

Gase definitely has to go down to the college ranks. Can't imagine any NFL team willing to give him an OC gig after bombing as a play caller on his last two teams.
And not taking the blame for it.... guy is a loser.

I once saw where Saban said the years he spent working for Bill Belichick were the hardest he’s ever worked in his life.

I think what Saban is doing is a service to college football. Taking otherwise ****** coaches and making them serviceable. The problem: they probably need to work their way up first like Kiffin instead of the Muschamp, Pruitt versions (though Smart is meh and Jimbo has a ‘chip).

If Saban had hired Manny to be his DC when Richt was fired for Kirby, Manny Diaz would’ve been a much better coach for it.

This is more of your retardation.

Miami never operated this way, even when we were winning, and can never operate this way, unless we can transplant the Bama boosters and revenue streams which makes all this possible.

There are other things we can and should do that we’re not doing, this is not one of them.

You are so blinded by your idiocy you don’t even know what is monetarily possible.

Before you throw up a strawman like you love to do every time you lose an argument, note for the record that all I said was Alabama succeeds because they hire coaches "who have experience and know what they're doing."

So Miami can't afford to hire coaches with experience? Is that what you're going with?

If I were Saban I would just retire. How can you not get tired of having to rebuild the program every single season? It has to be an addiction. You can't even just focus on coaching or recruiting, you constantly need to be tapping up coaches you may want to hire, all the while all of your ex-employees are all out at other programs like henchmen trying to beat their ex master, year after year. I'm exhausted just hearing about it in the news every year.

In case your advanced age is affecting your comprehension and short term memory, the topic of the thread is the hiring of multiple ex head coaches as analysts.

Maybe next time, understand the topic being discussed instead of constantly jumping in with your pre-determined negativity.

You are a one-trick pony.
