Two biggest takeaways

This is the one shocking stat to me... Quadruple threat in the running game. All four over 6 yds per carry with longs over 20 yards?!

I got obliterated on this board all summer for having the audacity to say Miami doesn’t have 5 Biletnikoff winners at WR, but your point #2 is clear as day and has been obvious for a long time. We have no game changers at WR. We do at RB.

Good win. Lot to improve to have a truly successful season, but for game 1 in this weird *** season, it was a good win and everyone should enjoy it.
Even @Liberty City El who I respect was talking about how we were sleeping on our receivers. I didn't see it then and still don't. These dudes are soft and cannot create any separation. Pope is a huge bust. No playcalling is going to change their mentality. But I'm at least hopeful about Payton. He might be a player.

Lashlee needs to earn his paycheck by scheming them open. Also, using the tight ends more will take pressure off the WRs. They don’t have to be All Americans for us to have success.
Every team is gonna stack the box and dare these guys, they didnt even flash

I think Wiggins is a game changer - we just don't give him enough looks for some reason.

It’s Week 1 with an entirely new offensive staff, and QB, without a spring.

For one, he doesn’t even have anywhere close to the entire playbook installed.

For two, he’s not showing it in a non-conference game in which we’re 2+ TD favorites.

He’ll scheme them open. The TEs will get plenty more work. King will be even better throwing the football. But none of that changes the fact that we don’t have NFL talent at WR. That doesn’t mean we have to suck or can’t win or anything like that. Not at all. There’s talent there, and there’s NFL talent at MULTIPLE other spots on the offense. But it ain’t at WR.

How can that be your biggest takeaway? I agree with what you're saying but our o-line didn't get push or pass protect tonight. We gained yards because we have better athletes.
The o-line isn’t going to all of a sudden start blowing teams off the ball. The o-line is better. Uab is a good defense and we watched the oline struggle to block cmu last year

To be fair, Harley ran right by his guy in man for an easy TD, and King overthrew him badly. It’s not like these guys are awful. This site is always so black and white. We’ll have plenty of WRs make plenty of plays. But there’s just no high end talent there. It’s not the end of the world. There’s high end talent at the most important position in the sport. There’s high end talent at TE. And at RB. We don’t need 3 Andre Johnson’s to beat Virginia Tech. I’m just pointing out that the WRs are not up to Miami standard. But the offense still can and will be very successful.

This isn’t an apples to apples comparison by any means, but the San Francisco 49ers had a bottom third WR group last season. They had a lead late in the super bowl. There’s plenty of ways to skin a cat.

You’re right, but the key is that they would have crushed us “tonight.” In 4 weeks, we’ll see.

UAB is a sound defense. I said that said that in another post. My thought is they got lower than Miami in the run game to drive us back and got quicker when we passed. There has to be a reason for that.

100% on this point. Wiggins is a major deep threat, and he isn’t bad in the intermediate passing game. Harley’s reliable when he gets the ball, and Pope just isn’t doing it.

Respectfully disagree. He’s got some good measurables. He’s not an elite route runner and he doesn’t have elite hands. He’s a better athlete than he is a WR. Good college football player and can have a good season. He needs to for us to be really good. But he’s not an elite talent at the position.

Harley was open but dude is tiny so unless the ball is directly on the money he cant go make a play on it. Is what it is
Wiggins has the most potential but cant put it together. Not gonna crucify Likens yet but i see no progress
Pope has been a bust since day 1 and i have been downvoted to **** on this board for saying, now everyone sees the light
Team badly need a WR1 like AR15. Pray that Payton is that dude or maybe Redding. Gonna be a long season otherwise

Why is UAB a sound defense? Because CIS told you so? Or because they were last year?

Central Arkansas’ backs put up 6 yards a carry on them last week. An FCS team.

Agree that the word elite can’t be used for any of our WR’s. Can’t think of the last time we had a WR room that didn’t have a defined WR1. 2014, 2015 maybe?

Payton or Redding becoming Ahmmon Richards is not only ridiculously wishful thinking, but suggesting that it’s the key to whether or not Miami has a long season is completely ridiculous and, frankly, wrong.
