I know this is a location that a lot of people have thrown around for the stadium (although obviously not very realistic), but there is a new proposal that would make Tropical Park the new site of the Youth Fair. As a part of this plan, the football stadium would be torn down. This would end any chances of a new stadium being built there.

I just hope in my lifetime (I'm 34) I see UM play home games somewhere else other than Son Life.

After seeing the photos of improved SLS (with capacity reduction due to banners), i am very encouraged that a new stadium might not be necessary.

FIU is expanding onto the Fair grounds

I work at FIU... Its becoming its own f*cking city for crying out loud. We have a Chilli's, massage place, Golden touch -barber shop all inclusive on campus.
Hence, soon FIU is going to be offering escort services to international students for a reduced cost since their out of state tuition is out of control.! lol

What does a crappy stadium in TP have to do with any future canes stadium? It would have been torn down in any case

UM is making a big gamble tying themselves into SunLife. When the current lease is up, I imagine they will have little or no leverage in negotiating a new one.

Best option, in my mind, is still the possible MLS soccer site near Marlins Park if it comes to fruition, especially if they get the expanded parcel near the river and a transit extension. They could enter a long-term partnership with Beckham's group and the city, and have a long term home.

Of course, they might have to <gasp> invest in the future of the program, a concept which seems foreign to them.

F*ck that sh*t.

Who still goes to the Youth Fair anymore?

It stopped being good around the same time we did (2002).

Move that crap out to the Metro Zoo or Doral.

Good. I'm sick of it even sitting out there as an option that we'll stupidly never utilize. Just wait for Flake to claim how unfortunate it is that the parcel of land no longer exists there though when we re-up at SLS through the year 2085.

I brought this up awhile ago. Our school has zero forward thinking; this is a consequence of that.

How about a 7 year plan? Nobody is expecting a stadium next year but how about some type of plan for the future?

I don't understand this love affair with an on-campus stadium. It will not help with attendance. Go to a basketball game and check out student attendance at the BUC, which is a short walk from student housing - the students don't give a ****. Sun-Life's location is actually a help as it is closer to Broward, Palm Beach, and Collier Counties' Canes Fans and high school athletes.

The stadium is not an issue - the continual losing and incompetence is the problem.

I didn't realize the new renovations were moving the stadium 25 miles closer to campus.

our university has zero leadership and interest when it comes to football. do we really have nobody to lobby for our case? All the lawyers that went to The U? nobody?

Golden Touch sounds like an Al Golden sponsored organization for touching younger boys. I hear he has three locations in Pennsylvania & two in Miami.

My humble opinion is that the distance thing is overblown. SLS is centrally located. For a school with such a small alumni base, thats a good. The biggest issues were the capacity and antiseptic atmosphere. The renovations address both issues.
