Tidbits from workouts

If D Smith really turns the corner do you think Redwine goes back to corner? without malek we are really young there. Between Smith, Frierson, Finley, Carter couldn’t they could hold down a spot opposite of Jaquan? I just think Redwines money at the next level is CB. I don’t recall feeling like he was a great tackler against tougher guys like TEs and RBs. I recall being frustrated with him quite a bit. Lol Just a thought. And Smith caught my eye a few times late in the year. I like his game!

Redwine is too stiff to play corner.

Redwine has no chance at corner imo, especially if we bring these 2 AH beasts in.

Michael Jackson has one of the Outside CB slots locked down.

Bandy has the nickel CB spot locked down (Smith is his backup. when Bandy got hurt vs Wisconsin, Smith played the rest of the game in the nickel)

Jhavonte Dean has the advantage for the outside cb spot opposite Jackson. But we have potentially 5-6 CBs incoming from this 2018 class.
We need and want Redwine at safety.

he was our backup nickel.
im sure he will keep that job.

he will definnitely be ahead of Knowles/Finley in the Safety depth chart too. Amari Carter may have locked down Redwines backup job from the end of last year though. And hall is a beast and coming to be jaquans backup. Either way those 3 young safetys are good. Finley and Knowles are trash.

I wish our fans would not trash our players like that. maybe they can play special teams and help or help with the scout teams as veterans of the program. We have better players coming so, let be grateful of that.

nah **** that knowles LITERALLY almost singlehandedly lost us the ******* fsu game.

and he was way better than finley who also LITERALLY got less snaps than anyone on our defense that wasn't redshirting.

Im fine with them being a member of the team this upcoming season, but they should be gone by next season.

Can’t we ever just keep positive posts and good news that way? Some guys always having to show that their smartest guy in the room. Just for a few days guys. If your really a Canes fan is it too much to ask?

ive been one of the more positive guys on this board dip****.

but theres guys on this roster that are not miami caliber and they need to go. Sorry if you don't like to hear that, but its the truth. Sorry, but not all depth is good depth if they can't help us or fill in when guys get injured or be major contributors on special teams. We don't got room for that no more.

seems like fat al and doritos shadow is still cast over you.

Just asked if we could keep it positive for a few days and maybe not call our own players derogatory names. Really not arguing if Knowles is good enough or not. Maybe he isn’t but why call call fam trash?

have you ever listened to a rap album and said "man that ***** trash" but in reality its just average or below average or just bad? its similar except they are plain bad and not miami caliber. Not saying I wish anything bad for them. If they went on and had a Tyre Brady impact at a school like Marshall, I'd be happy for them.

"He is one of the standout physical specimens on the team. Expect him and Joe Jackson to form one of the best pass-rushing duos in the nation."

ACC refs have something to say about that!

Redwine was actually a pretty good safety for us this year and was probably the best coaching job of our staff this year IMO

Redwine got beat by a couple perfect throws in the bowl game. He had a fine season. If Carter, Smith, Hall, or whoever takes his job they will have earned it.

michael jackson says hello

I think you have a very strong case and that would be like splitting hairs to be completely honest with you.

Redwine, outside of some really good throws and catches in the OB, had probably as good of a second half of the season as anyone not name Jaquan IMO, but M Jackson would be a great one too.

Sorry but red wine and Knowles don't need to see the field as starters. If they do Miami has some serious personel issues

I'm rocking back and forth, repeating "Please be decent, Nkosi, Please be decent" like Jenny praying in Forrest Gump.

How heavy is garvin these days? Would like to see him push 255-260 by August...

That would be too much too quickly. He may eventually be that weight in 3-4 years, but I don't think gaining 25-30 lbs in one year would benefit him.

Michael Jackson definitely has the tools to be a shutdown corner.

He’s got the frame, the attitude, and the experience. Rumph needs to earn his money and get this kid to the level he’s capable of before he goes to the NFL.

DMoney do you think JJ and Garvin will start on opposite sides in ‘18?

Probably on 3rd down djack slides to tackle with Willis and have Garvin and Jackson off the edge

man i think everyone is trippin if they seriously believe garvin and joe jackson aren't going to be lining up opposite of eachother. as if joe jackson can't possibly play SDE. dude was ******* 6'5" 250lbs as a true sophomore. you don't think he's gunna put on another 10lbs? Come on. We're putting our 2 most talented DEs on the field as much as possible. Garvin and Joe are going to get hella pt together including on non passing downs.

2017 snaps (1986 total):
Joe Jackson - 580
Chad Thomas - 550
Trent Harris - 455
DJax - 213
Garvin - 165
DJ Johnson - 23

We are losing 1028 snaps, or 51% of all our snaps.
Next year it will look something like:
Joe Jackson - 650
Jon Garvin - 500
DJax - 500
Scott Patchan - 150
Rousseau - 150

Can’t see Rousseau catching 150 snaps. He’s about 210 pounds at 6’7. He’s a prime redshirt candidate.

It might be better to rotate Jaquan Johnson at nickel when Trajan Bandy needs a break or if God forbid gets hurt, instead of Derrick Smith.

We got Smith, Carter, Hall, and Frierson one of these guys (or more) should be able to hold down the safety spot along side Redwine during those types of situations.

he's not going to be redshirted. Maybe if he had not EE'd, but he did.
I'd bet by the start of the season he's at least 6'7" (probably actually 6'6") 230lbs+. That is good enough weight to see some reps at WDE as a sub.
I only think he'll really play because of need. Djax and Patchan are the only other DE's we have. One got injured and missed half the season, the other played 3 snaps on defense because we needed him to switch to offense for depth.
