UNC either fired or demanded the resignations of Its' President, Its' Chancellor, and Its' AD and BUTCH along with his asst coaches because of transgressions commited while he was Head Football Coach. No Board Of Trustees or Administration is going to offer damaged goods as a solution for its' program. YES Butch can evaluate talent. YES Butch can develop players. YES Butch can assemble and develop asst coaches. YES Butch is a winner and I would love to see him return. NO- Butch hasn't been scarfed up by any other NCAA program. AND Finally YES Butch is one of the few college coaches to cost his bosses their respective jobs.

Except.....Butch was cleared in all the UNC Academic scandal.

"November 2012 letter from Shepard Cooper, the NCAA's Director of the Committee on Infractions. It reads: "This is to confirm that former University of North Carolina head football coach Paul "Butch" Davis was not alleged to have been involved in any violations of NCAA legislation in the University of North Carolina Case (Case No. M357 / Infractions Report No. 360, March 12, 2012)."

"Another independent investigation, led by former Gov. Jim Martin, investigated irregularities in the African and Afro-American Studies department after an earlier campus probe found 54 problem classes between 2007 and 2011. Martin determined the problems in the African studies department began in 1997. "This was not an athletic scandal," Martin said. "It was an academic scandal, which is worse. But it was isolated. There was no coach that knew anything about this. They didn't need to know. That was not their job.""

Three reasons Butch should be in:

1. He's Butch f***ing Davis
2. He's not Al Golden
3. Any hire that would make Donna, her puppet AD, and the complacent/incompetent BOT uncomfortable would be a welcome change

He's not the only man who'd represent a dramatic upgrade from Golden, but he should absolutely be under consideration.

Except that newer allegations seem to point to the fact that he DID know of these joke classes, and potentially even suggested that players take them.

LINK

"Powell quoted former football coach Butch Davis as telling players, "If you all came here for an education, you should have gone to Harvard," while explaining that players were directed to take classes in the now-notorious AFAM department."

According to the report, two of the coaches — John Bunting and Butch Davis — were interviewed for the investigation about “their knowledge of the irregular AFAM classes.”....Academic issues mostly were handled by assistant coaches, Reynolds and another ASPSA counselor, Beth Bridger, when Davis was head coach. Reynolds and Bridger were sending many of Davis’ players toward the AFAM classes and Davis said he was aware that the classes were keeping some players academically eligible.

You should add a 4th reason Butch is out titled "Because Al Golden isn't going anywhere because Miami's dip**** BOT's and/or administration couldn't care less about competing and winning anymore". Paraphrase if you'd like.

should be the first and only reason...........

People keep clinging to this "but the NCAA cleared Butch" notion are ignoring the bigger reality.

UM suffered tremendously over the Shapiro NCAA scandal and embarrassment. The administration and BOT saw it as a huge black eye. Its one reason they extended AG and really liked him, because he was squeaky clean and presented a very clean image of the program.

Butch is tainted. There is NO way anyone can avoid that. The media cannot mentioned Butch without bringing up the UNC fraud case. People also tend to forget he was the HC during the John Blake fiasco at UNC. In the world of public relations and media, Butch has a negative/sleazy stigma attached to him. This is made INFINITELY worse by the fact that UM is on probation with the NCAA. Hiring an HC that was fired during a huge NCAA scandal at another school would generate a lot of bad press for UM. There has now been at least one notable player that has come out and accused Butch of having known about the academic fraud, and even provided a quote of Butch saying "If you wanted an education you should have gone to Harvard". Butch has all but admitted he made the statement and has tried to spin it as "it was taken out of context". But anyway you spin that, when added to the heap of negative crap around his time at UNC, it further makes him very difficult for anyone to hire.

And then you have the fact that many around UM still see Butch as an opportunist that publically lied and bolted and burned bridges at UM upon his departure. This may actually be the LEAST important issue here, but its still an issue. For people who may not care about football as much, if they see Butch as a snake, or someone untrustworthy and duplicitous, they aren't going to hire him.

I think people need to get real about the Butch situation. Yes, he is ABSOLUTELY the best HC option we have right now in a perfect world. I would love to have Butch back. But Butch has made too much of a mess for himself over the years, and given UM's current situation, and what went down over the Shapiro mess, I think its HIGHLY unlikely that Butch would be seriously considered for the job. I hope Im wrong, but I think people pining for Butch are just setting themselves up for major disappointment.

All of us who went to college knew the "under water basket weaving classes" to take to pad our GPA's. Knowing that classes were a Joke and directing kids to take easier classes is different than knowing that kids weren't doing the work required for those classes.

It is not against the rules for a Coach to be more concerned about keeping his players eligible than making sure they are taking the most challenging course load.

You think Nick Saban is making sure that Johnny is not taking joke classes and advising him on his course work.

The UNC case was more about President and Chancellor costing coach his job. Tressel, Joe Pa and St Bobby were all much dirtier than Butch. That said, he will probably not get another job. But it will be because of the corrupt nature of university presidents and administration whores.

I don'r care what Saban is doing.

Fact of the matter is that Butch knew about the fraudulent classes and apparently may have directed kids to take them. Therefore, it's incorrect to make it seem as though he's innocent in the situation. Neither UM or any other major program would touch him right now.

Except that is not a "FACT" that he knew about fraudulent classes. You are not using that term correctly. There is not one "FACT" that states that Butch or Bunting in your links knew that these were "Fraudulent" classes and directed kids to them.

Again....Knowing the classes were jokes or easy is not the same as knowing they were fraudulent.
