Our fans keep thinking that, but for the product our fans want(The Decade of Dominance to return), it would hemorrhage money, especially in today's CFB world. I just want a compelling product, and you can get that with the current budget, provided you have an AD worth a ****, that can hire a coach worth a ****. Miami should be a consistent 9-11 win per year program, with CFP appearances thrown in. In other words, Notre Dame under Kelly, but in a conference. I've come to the realization that Miami has a ceiling today, because the NCAA has made it "Richest Team Wins", in a way we haven't seen in over a half century. Frankly, I'm shocked the NCAA doesn't just let Alabama, Clemson, and Ohio State give out unlimited scholarships. Might as well, they hoard all the top end talent anyway.

How would it hemorrhage money? If teams like Texas, texas a@m, and michigan can make profits of over $80 million (and more) while sucking ***, why can't Miami? Pay the money to win and the U sells itself imo. Miami has shown that under the right coaching the team can reach the top of the football world. Right now Miami is a Muni course while all top teams are trying to be Augusta National. Make a real commitment to winning and see what happens.

The UM administration has made it difficult to have passion for cane football with the staphs they've been hiring. There’s just not a whole lot they’ve gotten right in over a decade and a half. Canes football these days is about as exciting as watching girls volleyball, without tall women and the spikes. Sadly, I’m more and more convinced that it’s by design, or at least no accident, or fluke, or one or two recruiting classes away from competing for a ’ship. That’s just pure fantasy.

Have you been paying attention to what this fanbase will and will not pay for? Never mind the fact that Michigan, TAMU and Texas produce more alumni in one year, than we produce in 5. That plays a huge role in athletic fundraising, because it's a numbers game. We are a small private school, where a good percentage of the student body doesn't give a **** about football(Most of these kids and their families are not paying **** near 200k because the football team is good), and our unaffiliated fanbase has shown over the last 40+ years that they won't pack the stadium unless there's a very compelling reason to do so(Merely having a good team doesn't cut it, you have to have an elite Miami team, playing another top end team, in a game with huge implications for this fanbase to truly give a ****). Even when times are historically good(IE the Decade of Dominance/the 2000-2004 run), Miami had to battle to BREAK EVEN. That was BEFORE expenses for top end programs skyrocketed.

In a CFB world where Alabama spends as much as an NFL franchise for their dominance, Miami would be spending money that most likely isn't coming back. Why? Because it is a proven fact that we don't have a large enough alumni base, and our fans are miserably cheap and will do the bare minimum to keep the program going. Never mind the fact that Miami will never be able to have the kind of dark money that programs like Alabama, Ohio State and Clemson can depend on to procure talent. So, for Miami to win at the level a lot of our dumbass fans want, they would have to be cool with losing money year after year. That isn't happening. Like I said in a previous post, there's a ceiling for the program now, because the NCAA is allowing this "Richest Team Wins" nonsense in a way we haven't seen since scholarship restrictions.

Does that mean that Miami shouldn't try? No, it means that Miami has to have a certain mindset to overcome the limitations placed upon the institution by the complete lack of financial parity in the sport. Miami has to hire an AD that can do more with less, that can identify and support undervalued coaches and leaders, and then create an assembly line, because it's likely Miami won't be able to hold onto them, if they start winning. To use a sports analogy, Miami have to be the Oakland A's. In other words, a well managed organization that is consistently competitive despite budgetary restrictions. Like the A's, there's a ceiling on what Miami can be on a regular basis. The A's most likely won't win a World Series anytime soon, but they are consistently in contention for the playoffs, are usually a somewhat compelling team. That's what Miami can and should be, provided the BOT and Boosters get together and hire an AD worth a ****.
