It’s possible but Auburn choked in that game and only finished 5-7. How could they justify that after ND crushed Stanford?

I think the committee has the justification to leave them and let them play their way in.

The fact H2H is not the first tiebreaker shows you college football is ****ed. Including TV ratings in their decision-making will be the downfall of the system in the long run if they choose to go down that path.

Technically no, AP writers and coaches had them ranked at the beginning of the year. The playoff committee didn't start meeting until the beginning of November.

IMO, bama has to play their way in, as you say. The problem is that the committee changes the goalposts seemingly every week so tonight is anyone’s guess. I think bama could drop one but in general, it will be pretty chalk.

They know 99% of fans jaded will neglect their children, jobs, and health to make sure they watch the playoffs anyway.

He basically said that the committee is fraudulent if it doesn’t follow its own published principles, the most important of which is head-to-head followed by common opponent performance. He reiterated, over and over, that if head-to-head is not the prevailing consideration, then all the programs will immediately stop scheduling big time out-of-conference games. He said that very little weight should be given to blowouts against inferior teams. What matters is if you beat your best opponents — exactly what ND failed to do.

At first, sure. In the long run though, many will ignore it as they see how rigged it is. Others will stick with it though. The WWE gets pretty good ratings too. That's where college football is headed - a core of rabid fans who aren't actually interested in the competition on the field and a true champion, but rather how a relatively small set of teams plays every year in their version of a Royal Rumble with heroes and heels.

I’ll keep saying, the argument that should be considered is why 5 teams from the SEC should be getting in. Bama has not played real well in November and lost to FSU badly. OU is awful on offense. Miami/ND should be in and 4 should get in from the SEC. It’s still the most teams from any conference.

Sounds like he got the memo it's Miami or ND and the entire country is rebelling against ND because it means H2H does not matter
