The reason why this program will always have title potential

Hypothetical:

What would Gus Malzahn do with the talent in our area? How long would it take him to contend for an ACC title? How long would it take him to contend for a National title?

Malzahn could walk into Miami right now and take them to the title game.

I keep saying it. UM is the same sleeping giant that USC was before they lucked into hiring Carroll. UM has been considered dead before by bozo pundits.

With a competent HC UM will rise again like a Phoenix. This is exactly why the real hardcore UM fans are so on edge. We know what this program can do with the right HC leading us.

Could you imagine a Carroll or Saban or even Meyer at Miami. ****, now I'm ****ed, I hate this inept staff.
Or Malzahn.

Think about this: UM won two straight NCs with Larry Coker at the helm. Dennis Erickson won 2 NCs. What was his record everywhere else he was? Butch Davis, a veritable buffoon at times on the sidelines, was on the verge of an unprecedented run because of where UM is located.

Correct. With the exception of Coker, all the aforementioned coaches are considered innovators on their respective side of the ball. Coker actually worked on both sides as I think he coached DBs early in career.

Talent + innovative coaching = Miami Dominance!

Aren't FIU and FAU sitting in the same recruiting grounds? I'm wondering if it's just a matter of time before they make some real progress.

I thought for a while FIU had a chance to make a move with their on-campus stadium and Cristobal helping to build them up, but now that it seems the Power 5 conferences have locked everyone out, I just don't see it.

They'd have to get into a real conference.

The entire premise of this thread is EXACTLY why so many of us are ****ed off to high **** at this point.

We're the definition of a sleeping giant. We have a built-in, inherent recruiting advantage courtesy of the sheer luck of our geographical location. We should be a team that year in, year out...consistently wins 9-10 games even in a "bad" year.

The problem is...I challenge anyone to find me an administration anywhere in America that has made 3 successive hires that come anywhere close to equating to Coker, Shannon, and Golden. You could be REALLY bad at being an admin and still...eventually...hit on ONE of 3 hires. We've done these kids a disservice for the last decade by basically being run by well trained chimpanzees.

It's disgusting really...the more you think about it. Almost everything that has happened to us the last 10 years is SELF INFLICTED. We're our own worst enemy.

Alabama hired at one point, in consecutive order, the following coaches: Mike DuBose, Dennis Franchione, Mike Price and Mike Shula. Obviously they got it right with Saban but they had a bad streak prior to that hire.

Not trying to refute the point about Miami administration making bad hires, but it does happen other places, even at those schools that worship football like Alabama.

Fair enough...point taken. Unfortunately, we're currently staring at that situation right in the face.....one more bad hire and we match that run you mentioned above.

And also...unlike Alabama we don't have the 3rd party outside support financially that an Alabama has to recover from that run of bad hires. They have been able to keep Saban in large part to the resources and money they can throw at him...that would NEVER be the case here. We simply don't have that luxury and are hugging that dangerous line of irrelevancy.

in hindsight they probably should of held onto Cristobal a little longer

My point exactly. ANY true game day type coach who gets the MOST out of his players would be successful here!

AntwanJ told me that all the players from South Florida schools were just too dumb to be coached up. Incredible that many could make the NFL--they must have all played for Alabama and received the greatest coaching to even have a shot at the NFL.

Malzahn might be the best offensive coach in the country. If you look at his past offenses he's adapted and had everything from 4,000 yard pocket passers to what you see now with veer. Dude is a football genius and would win multiple titles if he ever came to miami.

Notre Dame hires post-"the slobbering, coke-bottle glasses-wearing, old fart":

Bob Davie
George O'Leary (nice resume you got there, George)
Ty Willingham
Charlie Weis

USC before Petey Carroll had a string of bad hires, too.

LOL at D$ waiting until the end of the season. Jesus Christ. What more do you need to see? Are you a glutton for punishment?

What, specifically, can you point to that makes you think Golden has ANY chance of turning it around this season?
