The real reason they changed the clock rule.

So far, the average game is just as long. Just there’s more commercials and less actual football. These TV networks wrote checks for broadcast rights they couldn’t cash so they had to find a way to cram more advertisements into their 3.5 hour window.

I know a lot of folks are going to the game this weekend. Count how many times the official wearing red comes out onto the field. That’s when the broadcast is on commercial break.

Yeah I think we discussed this when the rule changes happened

They tried to shorten the game by removing the actual action instead of what’s actually bloating the times

Sad

The timer on the commercial breaks (that you see them take down on the field in their planned TV breaks) for games on ESPN and ABC went from 2.5 minutes to 3 minutes per break is what I was told. So every kickoff and change of possession is where they're plugging their increased ads and gaining back the time cutout from first down stoppages.
I swore I saw a 4 min timer last game.. Could be the drinks tho.. I was shocked

Somebody has to pay the bills. Its the TV money. So that means more commercials.
I think everyone understands this

But we also don’t want the actual action shortened to shorten the game, is what fans are saying

At least that’s my stance. Like yeah the games are too long sure, but commercials are part of the deal, so just leave the actual action alone

Less football and more commercials smh. I’ve never heard a football fan say “ you know these **** games are too long”. Not one time. On top of that they’re selling player safety as one of the reasons lol. As they make more games with the extended playoff. It’s hysterical.

The NCAA really needs some leadership and direction. I like the running clock but not if it is not going to change actual game time.

Lol got me ****ed up if you think I am going to live in a life of silence to watch the canes play hours after it actually happens.
Yard work/working out while phone is on Airplane mode does the trick. Listen to music or an audible book. Sweat out impurities so I can make room for more. An hour delay is usually perfect.

If player safety is improved by reducing the number of plays, then don't play football.

That's Essentially the argument the powers that be are making.

Can't stand this rule.

Literally every fan wants more football.

If a network has a 3 hour time slot that it is filling with a football game and the time it takes to do the actual playing of the game is 2 hours 15 minutes, there are 45 minutes of time for commercials. If the actual playing of the game drops to 2 hours 5 minutes, there are then 55 minutes of time for commercials...
Bingo. Same time slot, more time for commercials. I hope Miami wins a national title really soon, because I want to see one more before I either die, or stop giving a crap and stop watching. The game is NOT what it was 20+ years ago. It's just not.

Yep. At this rate it will be 2:57 minutes of commercials, then a coin toss to decide the winner.

The clock stopping on first downs was one of the things I really liked about college football. It gave teams a shot to actually come back in the second half. a 14 point 4th quarter lead in the NFL is pretty much game over 90% of the time but in college it wasn't some impossible hill to climb.

It's also why all these conferences working in isolation is bad for football in so many ways. They all need to generate more revenue than the next to stay on top so they sacrifice a lot to do that.

This.

My Dish Hopper is the best at skipping commercials so when I saw that YouTube video complaining about too many ads I was like there is a simple solution.
I believe that feature is only for Primetime Anytime recordings.

There's a reason I very rarely watch a game live. I skip all of them. You knew the commercials were going to increase. Ever since a DVR was invented, I've cut commercials out if my life. Of you complain about them, that's on you.
I be pausing the games to do certain things and just skip the commercials. All that time on pause just to be able to skip the bs.
