The Ole Miss Thread

Bud knows ball but he hates how good the Canes are.

Tom Fornelli is a weirdo who just tries to sound smart on Twitter.

Chip Patterson is a bit of a troll but when push comes to shove, he usually tells the truth.

The only one who's reliably good is their Nole guest Danny Kanell.

I’m a pretty regular Cover3 listener

It’s funny, I used to despise younger Bud like 12 years ago when he was full bore Nole homer. Could not stand him.

But I feel like he’s matured a lot with time, and his analysis is quite good and interesting.

I used to like Tom on the other hand but I’ve noticed his analysis has just been becoming lazier and lazier with each passing year.

Kanell’s hot takes used to be nauseating but he’s softened quite a bit in recent years and is a lot more listenable now.

Still love Chip.

I agree on Bud.

And you're right about Tom- most of his contributions this season have appeared lazy.

Why is Ole Miss all of a sudden considered the best team we've played all season?

Didn't we just beat the consensus best team in the country? OSU lost to Indiana and they were still the favorite to win the NC. Best defense in the last decade. Heisman finalist QB. Uncoverable WRs. Stacked with first rounders.

How could Ole miss be the best team we've played all year when we're favored by 3 but we were just 9 point underdogs to OSU?

People were arguing Ole Miss shouldn't have even made the playoffs without their head coach. Or should have been the 7 seed with A&M being the 6 seed.

Everybody talks about our 2 losses to SMU and Louisville.

But what about all of Ole Miss close games?

Kentucky 30-23
Arkansas 41-35
LSU 24-19
Washington St 24-21
Florida 34-24

Those are some bad teams they barely beat this year.

I think we'll win by a lot but I hope the players are thinking they're the best team we've played all year.

My 2.8 cents on this game (adjusting for the lingering inflation):

1 - Of note, Ole Miss played both Tulane and UGA in the regular season. I suspect they didnt need to do a full game plan for either of those teams. That will not be the case with the Canes. The part time coaching staff will likely just try to replicate the UGA game plan, as that's the closest team to Miami that Ole Miss played this season.

2 - I saw an analyst on youtube who broke down the success that Ole Miss's D-line had against UGA last week. His analysis was that the bulk of their success came when UGA's O-line failed to communicate and pass off rushers. (Stacey Searles?) I dont think the Canes will have that issue. I look for our O line to dominate in this game.

3- Marty Brown should get 5-8 touches this game to go with Fletcher's 15 carries. Ole Miss's tackling is seriously suspect. I really think they'll struggle to get Fletch and Brown to the ground if we get some initial rippage beyond the line of scrimmage.

Edit:

4 - Malachi Toney needs to tighten it up. In the past two games he's had three fumbles and lined up offsides on a critical 3rd down.

Best offense the team has faced.

The rest is just media/fans getting agitated because it's the next game to be played. Recency bias plus the ESPN monopoly trying to juice up whatever matchup is on the docket.

This is why the team's mentality and approach is so important.

Imperative that we not only take over the game running the football, but also finishing those drives with 7. But also be careful not to shorten the game so much that you’re up 7-10 and when They eventually pop a big play, it’s tied or just tight and the pressure goes all right back on you.

Cannot let this become of those TOP games like we had in the regular season where you feel like you’re up 20, but it’s really only 7. Or one of those first half blowouts and let your foot off the gas. Dominate the game on the scoreboard for all 4 quarters.

I don’t think the players care who’s playing against them. Their mindset is to destroy anything not in the same colors.

Beck is all I'm worried about on if he can give us a b+ game.... they don't have a coach so I'm really not worried.
Not worried about Beck here. He's aged five years in the past five months and is completely locked in. Playing the best ball of his career and is in control of the offense. He adjusts protection and run calls at the line by reading defenses pre-snap. We will miss him.

Fornelli is the comedic relief that isn't funny

Plus, he spent the whole UM-OhSt podcast talking about OhSt and downplaying UM... He's a Big10 guy, but come on

According to ESPN FPI offensive efficiency rankings, both ND and OSU have better offenses.

Worried about this after Dallas. Wish this game was in fkn Atlanta instead. Should have flipped these locations to have Oregon in Arizona and us and Ole Miss in Atlanta
This is the way it’s always been. Why are people always so surprised.
Texas was different because a lot Miami has transplanted to Texas.
I almost did it ten years ago. Two families down the block have moved there in the past 5 years.
