The Ole Miss Thread

I didn’t notice any inconsistency last night. He was lethally accurate all game.

He can definitely be streaky with his accuracy.

Heatherman needs to study the tape and see what these defenses did to keep him below 60% accuracy.

They run the ball in a way we sometimes struggle to defend so that will be curious. would love to see us overload frontside with Scott to force them between the tackles.

That QB is gonna get his but forcing them to hold the ball to throw is where we shine. Can’t get beat on the ground (obviously)

My gut feeling is that we need to play a lot of zone and make him dink and dunk down the field (stop the run first of course). Even moreso if OJ and Brown are out injured. Trying to man up Stribling and Co is a recipe for giving up long TDs, IMO. Hopefully he's inaccurate and/or gets impatient and turns the ball over or takes sacks from holding the ball too long.

My totally uneducated, not having watched the games, and only looking at the stats line guess is they played coverage and didn’t bring extra pressure. Would explain why he couldn’t complete passes but it correlates with his best rushing games of the season. I think Miamis advantage over most these teams is we can get home with 4, and limit his run damage with a spy. I am going to watch the lsu game as they have a good defense and I am interested in seeing what they did right or wrong.

I just know he’s over 70% with no interceptions through two games in the playoffs. That’s pretty good. I’d expect his numbers earlier in the year to be worse given that this is his first year playing big time football.

This X 100.

The running game needs to be gaining at least yards a lot.

But even that I don’t think is enough.
It’s difficult to just 4 to 6 yards your way down the field over and over again against any defense.

The passing game needs to create explosives. Not necessarily bombs down the field.

But more like the over the middle passes to Daniels and Toney against FSU. 8 to 11 yard passes into space, so those guys could add another 25 to 35 yards in YAC.

Running a service academy offense against Ole Miss sounds good in theory. But it’s very difficult in execution. And if we don’t execute it to perfection, it’s putting a lot of pressure on our defense against maybe the best offense in CFB.

We ran a service academy offense against TAMU when they knew 100% we weren’t throwing the ball. It’s difficult in execution when you aren’t built for it. Ohio st knew we were going to run the ball on the last drive and they are a brick wall. I think you are underestimating the OL.

Miami can obviously lose if it shoots itself in the foot. I hate to say it but one of my biggest worries is Toney fumbling. He has put the ball on the ground multiple times in the playoffs. Once is an aberration, but I’ve counted at least 3 times where the ball came out or almost did.
