The OC Candidates Thread

This is a very speculative conversation. Nevertheless, if we are going to engage in this, might as well mention that finding a candidate that has a chance of being here at least 3 years is important. If a guy is a potential head coach candidate in a year or two, that might not be a good fit. That's the downside of a HC who does not have a dedicated offensive philosophy other than toughness and physical and run-oriented (or at least that's what we all assume).

FSU offense looked bad that year. But when you look at the roster he had and the improvement FSU had over the year before..then look at his career body of work where that year seemed to be an outlier, Im not opposed to him. Now I dont have a notebook keeping track of OC's route trees..thats above my pay grade so I leave that to people smarter than me to comment on. But Ive got no problem with him being considered if we move on from Gattis.

This is actually how I felt about Lashlee's offense. I thought we were set up well to beat up on teams with lesser or equal talent, but were going to have a problem if/when we ran up against better defenses. Id kill to see what Heupel's offense would look like down here.

He’d be a home run. Trask has a noodle arm and that offense was smokin. Utilized unique talents well.

Ponce will be a casualty if this is done right. Which is fine by me. Cause most coordinators want to coach qbs or they have their guy

Not necessarily. He's can coach WRs. Which he did at FIU, under Mario, IIRC.
 
Not a Kendal Briles fan. Regardless, if he wants to be a head coach, I think that's his next move. I can't see him taking a lateral OC gig here or anywhere else (if that's indeed his goal).

I've been wanting a Briles style offense here for **** near 10 years. Instead we have brought in multiple old school pro style coordinators with predictably terrible results. The one spread guy we brought in (not Briles type spread by the way) put up the best 2 offensive seasons we've had in a while. Then we revert right back to pro style but with a twist this time. Pro style spread. lmao

Phil Longo me, if he doesn't want Ruggerio or Briles. But I would prefer Briles - he shows he can get it done in the SEC - and seems to like running the ball.

I love what Longo does, that would be a perfect fit but he might be up for a HC gig this offseason. Even if he doesn't, cant see him making a lateral move here. He has a superstar QB coming back and I can't imagine Mario gives him as much autonomy as the old man does.

I am putting all my faith in Mario. Whether he decides to keep Gattis or get a new OC, I will ride with him. What fans fail to remember is that our players don't fit his scheme what so ever. Lets look at Michigan in 2021; they had one of the best o-lines in the county paired with a very strong running back group. Their wrs were pretty good as well. Miami currently has a depleted offensive line, basically only 1 running back (Parrish), and a inconsonant level of play from the wr group. We don't have the personal to run a pound and ground offense. Should gattis have done a better job adjusting the scheme to fit the players we have on the roster? Absolutely. But, that's also hard when you have players that don't wanna buy into our program and have bad mindsets (thanks Diaz).

Also, what is brining in a new OC going realy going to do? It literally puts us back at square one. We don't have the talent to keep bring in a new OC every season and expect them to be successful day one. Only Bama, Georgia and OSU had the talent to adapt that quickly. Whatever OC we decide, we need to base our recruiting classes around our scheme

Those are my top two…. If they both tell me no I’m calling Dan Mullen because I know he’ll accept the job and he’ll get this offense rolling. He’s done it everywhere he’s been at with whatever he can stick together because he sucks Azzz as a recruiter…. But I don’t care because that’s what Mario and the rest of the crew are doing.

Mullen coordinating for a recruiter has already proven lethal.
 
I wouldn't be surprised if Gattis is fired that Mullen would get a call.
