The most important aspect of the Mario Era…

@The U is back to work

Rudy Fernandez (then UM's Chief of Staff and very close Joe E ally) was on OBB's podcast day after-ish Mario got the nod and Joe E (and Rudy) were acknowledged key figures in making it happen...

He specifically mentioned to Toast, "...we have calculated a Top 10 Miami is equivalent to $100MM in brand advertising..."

Remember, Joe E salvaged UHealth (Shalala made the right strategic decision, but operationally was a disaster) from almost bankrupting the University of Miami (hundreds of millions in losses) to creating one of Florida's premier health systems on its way to generating billions. BILLIONS.

The man has a track record of making money + leading organizations.

He could become UM's most consequential President in history if he pulls the trigger on campus expansion to Palm Beach or somewhere farther North (an economic and demograpic existential critical need).
Is campus expansion legit?

Is campus expansion legit?
I had heard it was at least floated in response to Vanderbilt aggressively pursuing a Palm Beach County presence.

I've long advocated Miami needs to physically expand the footprint or be content with an overall "ceiling" confined to Coral Gables.

FAU + FIU (even BCC) are not going to sit idle either. If I were FSU and UF, I'd also look to establish legitimate facilities South as well.

If you aren't sitting at the table, you're on the menu.

@DMoney My brother, just wanted to say i appreciate you for all that you do. Our Canes are coming; and i swear we riding with them. LFG!!
Appreciate you and everyone that made this place. It started in 2011 so you guys have been through some pain with us. That makes this moment feel even better.

I know Pete caught some flak for his “establish relevance” motto, but as a Canes fan turning 30 today, he was spot on. This moment is the peak of my Canes fandom. 2017 and these last two seasons are the best moments that I'm able to remember and it still feels so surreal that the Canes are finally relevant again on the national stage and that I get to witness it.
Happy birthday!

The brand has been rebuilt-For that I credit Mario and the administration.

We’re doing it the right way for sustained success.

It’s awesome.

UF already has a Broward campus.

Now I need to speak to YOUR manager.

This is outrageous!
I'm my own manager!

Mario was always the right man for the job, not only because he is an established program builder that is well-suited for the modern era of football, but also because he is NOT the guy who would build a facade then leave the U for greener pastures. Although it has taken some time, he has completely transformed the program from top to bottom. We are a legit contender. And while it has not been without frustrations (and there undoubtedly will be more in the future), he is relentless and has shown a willingness to learn from his mistakes and adapt. After two decades in the wilderness, we are back at the forefront with the best programs in the nation and in good position to stay there.

given from where a vast majority of students come from (the northeast), why would expanding to palm beach country be an attractive option?

/thanks fraser, i will the answer off the air

Not arguing, but would you say the same thing today if the absurd Playoff Committee had decided to leave Miami out on Sunday?

Because, right now, that seems to be the tangible difference between this program being “back at the forefront with the best programs in the nation” and being the same old same old that we’ve been experiencing for the past two decades.

We need to be very sober eyed about the recent events:

- Celebrate Miami's selection to CFPO
- RECOGNIZE it occurred ONLY because FSU (and ACC) were punked 2 years ago AND Duke beat UVA making our Canes the de facto ACC 2025 Champion
-- IF EITHER OF THOSE TWO EVENTS DO NOT OCCUR, MIAMI IS POP TARTS BOUND TODAY
- Demand our Canes compete in Rd I and not embarrass themselves
- THE PROBLEM with the 2nd bullet doesn't go away next year...how does Mario get that fixed?
-- That is a focus for another day...the ZERO METER TARGET is getting that dub dub vs aTm...GO CANES!!!

That's a fair question. I've been consistent in my perspective on Mario. I view this with a bit wider lense due to the realignment of college football that is still ongoing. I think Mario puts us in the best position as a program/institution for all of that because he is good at leveraging financial resources and building and maintaining a program. Even if we were left out of the CFP, we won 10 games in back-to-back seasons for the first time in 2 decades, led the ACC in viewership, and were in the national conversation for a good part of the last month. At worst we were first team out with good pieces coming back.
