The most important aspect of the Mario Era…

I do have a question D$. With Echeverria taking over as President over an academic like Frenk do you think whoever we hired would have large NIL support because he just knows the business of what’s going on? For example had we landed Lane at the time, would the Mas, Soffer, etc still be donating like this or do you think it’s because Mario is a homegrown kid.
if you know anything about Echevarria, you know he´s a true football fan that sat in the bleachers in the orange bowl in the 1970s. he´s been there during every trough and peak. he wants to see a top notch football program, with or without mario. now, certain people like the Mas family certainly have a personal connection with Mario and want to see him win so therefore they will support him more IMO,

It's been far from perfect but the trajectory has been undeniably up and to the right. We've hopefully established a real floor as a program:
annual playoff contention and a return to being a national powerhouse.

Over the last two season, we've gone:
  • 20-4 during the regular season
  • Finished with a top 15 ranking each year
  • Four losses were by a combined 18 points and all were one-possession games
  • And have now spent 33 straight weeks ranked, including 20 total weeks inside the top-10.
We are built for national exposure every year and positioned to be one of the most attractive brands in any future realignment conversation.

The question now becomes how far can he take us?

great post. momentum is there. no program achieves a rise perfectly, and we certainly did not, but we are going in the right direction.

whether mario can win a title is another question. so many things have to break your way.

When looking at the whole picture the timing of everything came together perfectly. New athletic and university leadership, NIL and player empowerment, etc, etc, etc....

I went to the gym yesterday and upstairs in the cardio area there are about 15 TVs next to each other. As I walked through and looked, the U logo was on 3 different channels at the same exact time. Absolutely glorious.

…is the timing. The sport is changing at an unprecedented rate. In 2021, we had a depleted roster (one 7th round pick in draft), a complacent athletic department, an obsolete brand, and one of the worst recruiting classes in America. We were about to be left even further in the dust.

When that orange-and-green logo flashed across the screen on Sunday, it represented more than a playoff berth. We are front and center for the new era of college football.
and setup perfectly for the future. I hate where the sport has gone and will continue to go, but its great knowing we have the perfect person in charge to navigate it!

I hope this team carries the weight of the last 20 plus years! The disrespect the hurt, the pain! If they feel like we do mentally this team can win! There is no over the top favorite this year anyone can win it imagine how big that would be. We have the team to do it,definitely want Osu!

Mario perseverance is impressive with all the condescending rhetoric given towards him the second he stubs his toe in any way.

Mario has a good heart and he loves this University with passion and shows it every single day never changes
If you haven't watched it, and sorry no time to link it for you, but check out his interview post CFP selection with Galloway and Herbie. He knows how much these guys trolled Miami and instead of attacking them, made sure he was incredibly personable to them and in a sense, was inviting them to come watch practices, etc.. Basically, Mario gave a masterclass of how to endear yourself to people that are important to national perception as the talking heads.

@The U is back to work

Rudy Fernandez (then UM's Chief of Staff and very close Joe E ally) was on OBB's podcast day after-ish Mario got the nod and Joe E (and Rudy) were acknowledged key figures in making it happen...

He specifically mentioned to Toast, "...we have calculated a Top 10 Miami is equivalent to $100MM in brand advertising..."

Remember, Joe E salvaged UHealth (Shalala made the right strategic decision, but operationally was a disaster) from almost bankrupting the University of Miami (hundreds of millions in losses) to creating one of Florida's premier health systems on its way to generating billions. BILLIONS.

The man has a track record of making money + leading organizations.

He could become UM's most consequential President in history if he pulls the trigger on campus expansion to Palm Beach or somewhere farther North (an economic and demograpic existential critical need).

People do not appreciate how this was a generational event in the history of the University of Miami

Cam Ward is gonna go down as the most important player in Miami history

The money being invested and infrastructure being put in place was necessary and we almost got left behind, but you still gotta win at some point

NFL guys mimicking his celebration. Cam dominating social media and NIL endorsements repping the U left and right while being the most exciting player in college football, to finally being the #1 pick in the draft

The “age of information” has given way to “the age of influence” and Cam Ward came along at the perfect time. Sadly he was 1 year too early or we would easily win it all if he had this defense
