The Last Coaching Search

Not to burst your bubble, but if yall got your wish and Miami decided to fire Golden this year, there isn't a decent coach out there that would touch this job. Not after all Golden went through and had to put up with to get to this point.

Walk into a team that has a lot of talent on its roster and lies right in the middle of the richest talent pool in the country. Yeah, no one would want to do that.

A Wille Taggert type or a mid major up and comer would take this job. No viable major name would take this job. Golden was a prototypical choice for the Miami job.

Golden's career resume was nothing remotely similar to that of our best coaches. Negged for not knowing your history.

No one on here knows who was interviewed or who was interested. Guys will sure act like they do know based on whatever bias they have. Some will claim it's a horrible job no one wanted, and others will claim Lombardi was cracking smelling salts under where his nose used to be trying to crawl his way to the Hecht Center.

Fact is UM is a true sleeping giant due strictly to its locale, and there will always be some hungry qualified coaches who want to come here. Our problem has been picking the right guys, not a lack of interest from good candidates.

Yep and the same guys who are pretending to know what happened are also the guys who propped up Golden, and are also the same guys who say we're going to hire Mario Cristobal.

Well said!

By virtue of where Miami is located, it will always be a coach away from being not just good, but elite.

Actually, Butch Davis would. For the money that Miami can pay.

He already knows everything he needs to know to get Miami back to playing for championships. He truly develops players, and his players come to play.

Been there, done that.

how do we know Butch even wants the job?

Wait, wait. WTF? Are you telling me a recent start up program has a better OC than us? I live in Atlanta and my wife went to GSU, when I heard they were starting a football program I literally chuckled. Wow, what the **** is going on. This guy has a pretty **** strong resume. What does Coley's look like?

Butch was 100% interested the last two times the job came open. Archer is right. I think he would take the job in a heartbeat. But no chance he gets an offer.

That fat little Tranny needs to pull her head out of her ***. Under her watch, we've had three duds in a row. Even a monkey flipping a coin only goes 50%, but somehow she's managed a 300% dud rate? Maybe her hiring criteria is siht.

This next choice has to be a proven, performance based coach with credibility, experience, knowledge, and one who knows Miami football.

THO says he is absolutely on the list. So I don't know what you talkin bout Willis.

Let me state for the record that I would love to have Butch back. That's just my personal stance.

Butch is not considered off the list. He does face an uphill battle. Should Golden get fired, the money will be very scarce to hire a top level replacement. No NFL coordinator or high ranking college coach will be affordable. The other options would be an impressing coach at a lower classification or a talented coordinator at successful school.

Guys like a Narduzzi and Chad Morris are in a situation akin to Bud Foster where you can wait to either succeed your mentor or hold on one more year, get a huge paycheck, and leave when the highest paying school comes calling, which we are not and are less likely to be if Golden gets fired. This leaves an extremely unique situation with Butch.

Butch has a lot going for him and some brutal things against him. He'd be the fans choice, he's a winner, he has a positive history here, his teams didn't get into trouble, he had record breaking graduation and academic rates, attendance was improving under him, the city would embrace him, and he would come for next to nothing which might be his biggest selling point. His salary and the cleanliness of his teams will be adored by the admin. The two things working against him are the way he left the school in 2001 and the NCAA issues at UNC.

First off, President Shalala has no personal ax to grind with Butch. She wasn't even President yet when he left and Coker was hired. The people that do have an ax to grind with him are the Board of Trustee members depending on how many of them are still here from 2001. The NCAA issues will be his biggest Achilles Heel and this is where she will be concerned. His name wasn't even mentioned in the findings, but the stigma is still there and it would take some enormous guts on the admin's part to hire him when facing probation. The media reaction would be vicious. He's only been touchable for two years and at 62, a major team wont come after him unless it's Miami and I don't know how interested the lower teams have been.

The admin has missed on two, going on three, of its last coaching hires. Another miss and they will lose the fan base. The recruits wont remember a dominant Miami. This is the hire they need to hit on and money prevents them from getting an expensive stud. Butch being a cheap stud that has a lot going for him on all sides might find a way to get the job by default. This is a watershed moment in the program should Golden get fired. I don't know how the big donors feel about Butch. Their support would only help. Hopefully one of the mods can shed some light on the attitude towards Butch right now with major players who donate and higher ranking decision makers.

Money line is used too much. For example. RichRod gets $1.5M at Zona.
We can hire a great coach. Money is needed on next big thing coaches like Franklin getting waaaaay too much at PSu
Our last search included a coach the bears took gladly. We just have dumbasses making decisions.

Money or interest haven't been the problem. Could have hired Trestman, Charlie strong, Gus Malzahn, and I'm sure a couple other coaches that have killed it since we've hired the two last two dummies. The admins need creativity.

In the late 70's and early 80's Miami was floundering just the same. The school ponied up for a proven coach who was expensive. Schnellenberger was his name. We went on a tear that no other team has matched. It is very possible for Miami to become a powerhouse, but they need to not be cheap and hire a big gun proven coach who has a competent and talented staff he can bring with him.
Not sure about the ponied up statement. When Schnell left after 1983 he was making quite a bit less than $100K, and that was after a raise.

LULZ at UM carrying a grudge against Davis and not hiring him because of that. Did he sue the school like Kehoe? ****, we even hired back that scumbag traitor Cristobal, and he stabbed us in the back again. Now, dudes are claiming the two-time Judas is still in UM's good graces.
