(The) Indiana (Game)

I hate listening to mendozas interviews he always sounds like it’s some scripted AI answer.

He's just a good guy, goofy, and proof they exist. He's super detail orientated, literally thinks of everything, etc. Kind of reminds me still of a kid who is just enjoying life, every moment, and to me it's admirable. He's essentially Ken Dorsey in a lot of ways and is stone cold calm out there.

He throws darts, was good last year, but **** what an improvement this year. He's going to have an amazing NFL career and I hope he keeps that full of wonder attitude. We all lose it at some point.

Make him uncomfortable and his mind will wander. He tries to control every situation, preps for it, so get him off his game.

Oregon is making them look better than they really are. They are good, but they are not the 85 Bears.
That would be us if we play disciplined football! IU have Ohio all they wanted and almost lost. I don't think they can beat us IF we play our A Game; but we gotta eliminate the dumb penalties that seem to keep other teams in games.

What would they be doing? Hacking into the helmet communications?
Most likely they are just an incredible coaching staff. But, it is absolutely insane what they’ve accomplished in 2 years at a perennial doormat program. The possibility of there being some fvckery going on is above 0%
First couple series make dummy calls on the headset and send the real plays in with a player from the sideline, just to test the waters a bit.

Stop, just stop.

Mendoza straight up sounds like he lives on LinkedIn, because he does. Anyone that has dealt with a LinkedIn robot knows how irritating they can be, because it's almost like they don't understand that everything isn't a MBA case study. There's also a lot of performative nonsense with those people, because they are desperate to appear to be much more intelligent than they are, hence the use of buzzwords and jargon. I think Fernando is quite bright, but watching his interview tonight with SVP, it was a bit off putting.

There's a line between polished and disingenuous and Mendoza consistently crosses it. The fact that he can't even say the word "Me" when grammatically it's the only word that would fit in a sentence, is weird, and proof that he took media training way too seriously. Now, that doesn't mean he is a bad person, I don't know the young man. That said, grown men aren't going to want to listen to the leader of the team talk about synergy all day.

I've said it multiple times that Mendoza is going to get an NFL GM fired, and the more film I watch, the more that initial impression is justified. Indiana has an offensive system that doesn't translate to the NFL, and Mendoza doesn't have superlative physical gifts that will allow him to get by as he develops.

I know Heatherman will have a gameplan that forces Mendoza off his spot, especially in regards to reads. Mendoza rarely has to go through progressions, it's not even a thing in the IU system. He's a one read guy. He doesn't have high end arm talent, and from what I've seen, when he does have to make a big time throw, it's more about his receivers bailing him out, than him putting it on the money. That said, he does have some athleticism and doesn't make mistakes, which is a huge part of winning football. Mendoza won't beat himself, and in a game where the margins are going to be tight, that may be enough to win.

I will also say this, tonight's game is the ultimate "Scoreboard and what actually happened are very different from each other" game. Indiana was gifted 28 points through Oregon blunders(Pick 6, 2 Fumbles, Blocked Punt). Think about that, had the IU offense not done anything else all night but punch those 3 non Pick 6 blunders in for TDs, that would have been enough to win. They didn't have to consistently put together drives, at least not long ones. As long as Miami doesn't consistently do stupid stuff, IU will have to put together some drives, and it's tough to do that against this Miami D, especially with the speed and power on the defensive line. The more snaps you take, the more likely it is that Bain or Mesidor wrecks your drive.

He sounds like LinkedIn rants.
My first gig after law school, I worked with someone who sounded like Fernando Mendoza. I wanted to punch him in the throat on a daily basis. It's off putting because it's all fake. No one sounds like they are on a job interview ALL DAY LONG. It was exhausting to deal with this guy, because no matter what, it was a bunch of buzzwords and dumbass LinkedIn "Messaging Matters" stories, even when they didn't make a lick of sense, or didn't apply.

Mendoza will make mistakes if pressured and he puts the ball on the ground when he gets hit. If we can pressure him and hit him he will give us chances at the ball. If we can limit the Indiana run game that’ll help. Flipside if we give him time he will carve us up so there will be moments of frustration for sure.

I love they are riding high and feel invincible, the shock of our physicality could fluster them early if we can take them out of what they have done so well. OSU front 7 got pressure on Mendoza but they struggled containing the run game. They cover better and we are depleted at corner most likely so it’s going to be tough to replicate what OSU achieved. To win we will need something similar though

Tonight Oregon had success on the ground so I think we have a shot there. The way we can beat them is what we do best so it’s not a bad match up save the passing strength of Indiana vs our young corners. They have big, fast, grown men on the outside. We will need Poyser and Thomas to lay some lumber and try to get them hearing footsteps without getting a targeting called
Pound that rock and keep Indiana off the field. Can't have turnovers and stupid penalties. OL and DL must dominate!

It’s football. You can’t play the what if game. But Oregon had to become obscenely one dimensional tonight. TOs absolutely killed them.

Gotta start fast. Defensively and offensively. Gotta score TDs. I know we hate the bro ball. But I swear to God, if we march down the field running the ball and Dawson gets cute ******* fire his *** immediately. At halftime. Make IU tackle us for 60 minutes. No one else has. Make them prove they are different.

Defensively literally do what we’ve done for 7 weeks. Stop the run. Win first down. Let Bain and Mesidor, be Bain and Mesidor. I’d play for no INTs unless it’s screens or hits you in the hands. Play the ball through the ground. Make their WRs make contested catches. This isn’t a dynamic offense. It’s a smart offense that takes what’s there.

The one thing I don’t see happening. I don’t think the moment gets too big for us. This is a team with older guys. Haven’t been in this moment, but they know this is it. Focus, no dumb penalties. Don’t make their job easier. They won’t do it for us.

Good post. I will add that, love it or hate it, bro ball will win us the title if we can inflict our will on them. Both lines must dominate. Take the fight to them. OSU game plan.

One thing Ive noticed this year is for some odd reason teams seem to always find a way to make mistakes they don’t normally make against Indiana and then Indiana seems to almost ALWAYS make you pay for those mistakes. We need to clean up the pre snap BS because we don’t want to be getting behind the sticks against them. I think our OL can move them in the run game and if we can manage their stunts (they stunt ALOT) we can give Beck time to get the ball out accurately.

Keys to the game IMO:
Play penalty free
Win the turnover battle

We do both of those things and we win #6 at home.

Indiana OL averages 305-310. Miami DL; 275,265,305,305

Miami OL averages 335. Indiana DL: 265,245,300,285

Miami is ******* massive and they will push most teams around. If those 9 can control the line, they can stop the run, run the ball, and force Mendoza into a 50% type game.

For anyone wondering:
Ole Miss dl: 330,310,290,245. Indians I’d almost 30lbs smaller.

It’s gotten us this far. It’s not pretty or ****. But it wins. Philly just beat the best QB/HC combo of a generation with the best lines in the NFL. Our style can keep us in the game, if we don’t shoot ourselves.
