(The) Indiana (Game)

Cigs is an elite talent evaluator and thanks to him being at JMU, was able to speed run the rebuild at IU by bringing in guys he knew could play and already knew what to do. Cigs relies on older guys mostly from the midmajor ranks, which is useful when you are playing teams significantly younger. The issue is what happens when you play a team where the age gap isn't nearly as wide, they are just as physical and have guys with legit NFL talent. That's where Miami comes in. I look at IU and I see a ton of outstanding college players, that will be working in Corporate America in six months. I look at Miami, I see a fair number of guys that will be playing on Sundays whether next year or a couple of years from now...

Honestly, Cigs is the thing that worries me the most. Dude is just a straight savage as a coach, he gets the most out of his players and fully understands what works for him. That's dangerous.
I agree. The thing with mid majors, there’s a ton of skill guys in those ranks who make the pros. The one group that is largely dominated by P4 guys? The OL. We’ve got two 1st round talents at Tackle. A day 2 G in Cooper. I bet Brockenmeyer is a late pick. One of the rotation guys at the other G will be a pro. Even the best DLs are gonna struggle against that. They just are.

That’s the difference and needs to be our backbone against IU.

The Ole Miss O is superior to Indiana's. Also, in the CFP, we faced the number 1 WR corps (OSU), the number 2 WR corps (TAMU) and the number 1 O in Ole Miss. We've been tested. Indiana played one tough game all year and barely won 13-10 based on a chip shot kick going wide by the *'s.

As long as the boys have the focus they had in the OSU game, we will win.
They were no good teams in that bracket.

Texas Tech and Bama were serious frauds.

If Miami can get healthy in the next 9 days and plays like it did against Ohio State, we will win. As a wise man once said, “It’s not the Xs and Os, it’s the Jimmys and Joes.”

Miami is undeniably a more athletic and (on paper) talented team than Indiana. They are a very intelligent and disciplined team. That’s their superpower.

Oregon isnt a bad team. I don’t want to down play an impressive win by IU. But I think Ole **** would have beaten the Ducks by 2 TDs in a shootout.

If Miami had played smart disciplined football against Ole **** and held onto the INTs, we would have won by score of around 42-16. I think most of the media would agree with that score based on how we dominated , but they also think it is just a given that Miami will inevitably find a way to shoot ourselves in the foot.

We are playing AT HOME in the national championship after going through the what was arguably the toughest 3 game stretch for any team since the playoff system was created (15 years?).

Indiana hasn’t played a team as good as Miami. We’ve beaten teams that are as good as Indiana. Thats a fact. Miami is winning #6.

I concur.

a healthy Brown (namely to defend their 2 big wideouts Saratt and Becker) and we win.

We need to follow Iowa’s game plan - go watch what they did to this vaunted IU team. They have little talent compared to Miami and they were a miracle play away from pushing these IU ***gots season into the ground.

Dont get cute. Tackle them hard and without reservation, and don’t let Mendoza throw his Hail Mary passes over the top. Do this and they are at best a 24 point offense.

Bain, Messidor, LF, we need you to destroy these mother ****ers up front without regard. Destroy these o line and the game is ours.

The game they had with Ohio State was very evenly matched

Could have gone either way. OSU missing a chip shot was wild but still.

Blowing out a team that got ****ed on by FSU and a soft Oregon team does nothing really for me

We play a clean game and we win. We **** around like we did with Ole Miss and we will likely lose
We are better in the trenches than any team they've faced.

Our o-line is better than Ohio State's. When Indiana played them, Jeremiah Smith was playing hurt. He was healthy against us, and it showed.

If we can run on Ohio State, we can run on Indiana.

Also, the way we play o-line with tight splits helps to negate all the twisting and stunting through gaps because loopers can be passed off more easily. I think Ole-Miss' d-line is more talented than Indiana's, but Indiana's plays better as a unit. I don't see anyone like Kam Franklin or Will Echoles on Indiana's d-line. Definitely no one like Kayden McDonald.

Our d-line is better, but the book is out on how to negate it with quick throws. Mendoza has the receivers and the release/accuracy to get that done.

Our DBs will be the key to this game. Indiana makes literally every single contested catch, and Mendoza does not miss with the back-shoulder throws. Also, their receivers are big and fast, the exact types that we have problems with.

We need Damari and OJ back for this game.

Good stuff man

Mendoza is a much better QB than Sayin but their WRs aren’t OSU level but they’re legit

There’s no real weakness to the team imo but also nothing superhuman other than their coach maybe. Much better coach than Day

We pushed OSU around but a few false starts or holds and it just causes too much stress against teams like OSU/Indiana

Just can’t have it

The thing wth Mendoza, you can get to him.. Indiana has taken some sacks.. And they havent faced a dline like ours.. I just hope Mesidor is good to go as he was injured and I dont know if adrenaline had him going back in but he looked ineffective with one arm. If his first read isnt there and he tends to look down on rush to try to find an exit strategy.. He can move with his feet straight ahead..

I think our dline can really cause issues with their oline..

Good write up.

The keys to the game are our dline creating pressure with four like the OSU game. Next key will be our DBs limiting those 50/50 passes.

On offense, we need run the football well and finish drives. Probably another game where there’s limited Pringle because Indiana is tricky when they blitz.

We need Beck scramble for first downs because the Indiana defense will cover our receivers sometimes so we can’t be in 3rd and longs.

We will need to complete several chunk plays. That means you CJ or Josh Moore. Upshaw was a huge loss as I think he would’ve been more productive than Jojo.

Mali will get the OSU treatment. Let’s see if Indiana has the personnel to eliminate him.

Lets play a clean game. IU is super disciplined and doesn’t beat themselves. Would love to jump out to early lead, as IU thinks they are invincible right now. Lets get them behind in an unfamiliar place and see how they like the pressure.

Being that football, in general, is a copy cat sport, I can see HS recruiting becoming dead if the portal situation don’t get clean up.

Indiana’s avg. age is 23 yrs old filled w transfer guys.
First, we can start with eliminating all of the ******* waivers out there for 6,7 years.

Hopefully this is the last year of that with the Covid **** over but the JUCO stuff also has to end with not counting their 2 years anymore.

Mendoza will make mistakes if pressured and he puts the ball on the ground when he gets hit. If we can pressure him and hit him he will give us chances at the ball. If we can limit the Indiana run game that’ll help. Flipside if we give him time he will carve us up so there will be moments of frustration for sure.

I love they are riding high and feel invincible, the shock of our physicality could fluster them early if we can take them out of what they have done so well. OSU front 7 got pressure on Mendoza but they struggled containing the run game. They cover better and we are depleted at corner most likely so it’s going to be tough to replicate what OSU achieved. To win we will need something similar though

Tonight Oregon had success on the ground so I think we have a shot there. The way we can beat them is what we do best so it’s not a bad match up save the passing strength of Indiana vs our young corners. They have big, fast, grown men on the outside. We will need Poyser and Thomas to lay some lumber and try to get them hearing footsteps without getting a targeting called

Agree. Not to nitpick but Oregon did not
Have much success on the ground outside the long run. IU bottled them up pretty good
