The game just changed forever

Nobody is saying this will make us more powerful than the top dogs but it at least puts us on the playing field.

If the conversation is 100k at UGA, 80k at Clemson, or 0 at Miami then our coaches don’t stand a chance

Underrated post.

We are COMPLETELY OUTGUNNED in the current system.

NCAA wanted to death penalty us for some steak dinners.

This allows us to offer something as opposed to nothing.

We sign guys now even up against the wall. If we get out ahead of this, work hard and be creative, we might be able to put together packages that make us more competitive.

Why does it have to be local? Why couldn’t Tate (if he were the starter) or any other star player get Nike or video game deal?

At this point it is all speculation. National/local will be determined on name recognition and what kind of money it will demand and where.

So bama , ohio state, uga will get more players? They already get the pick of the liter, how will this make their recruiting or coaching better. Is there a special island I don’t know about that has 6-7 stars on it ? And they’ll be allowed to have 100 kids instead of 85?
They will be able to make better deals than what ever Miami can. Nothing will change, everything will just be done legitimately instead of under the table.

This will not be equal opportunity for all 85 scholarship players. Do you think the long snapper will sell as many jersey, autographs, etc., as the starting QB? And besides that, they can't use a registered trademark such as the U to promote themselves or any business.

The only selling point I see to a recruit is that a particular school can say we can provide you with a large number of people that will purchase your likeness, jersey #, autograph, etc. And for the bag schools, it'll be in addition to that bag. And again, a 5* higher profile recruit will have much more opportunity to cash in than a lesser rated player.

This should help Miami tremendously
Agree. Miami is a major city with plenty of money. If it is an endorsement game, Miami should be well positioned. And the brand sells nationally. Just another thing to work. Better to be tied to Miami than a nowhere near anything college.

People don't realize that ads won't be able to refer to "Miami Hurricanes" or use Miami's logos. The average Miami-Dade resident isn't going to have any idea who this kid is in the Kendall Toyota commercial.

The term ‘intellectual property’ confuses a lot of posters. They’re too concerned with Tuscaloosa luxury car dealerships spending $1M/yr per player on billboards and bus stop signage.

Honestly if our program wasn’t in shambles and almost extinct I think everyone would be in agreement this is beneficial for The U. If used creatively this could mitigate lack of numbers in fan base , Our brand has always been more of a national & fickle appeal .. like a hip/urban/cultural phenomenon type of deal and alumni base in NE.and spread out. we have the ability to make College football appeal in major markets. I just think about 2017 Notre dame we were the talk of the country . The amount of pub and buzz was surreal .. we’ve never been good in the technology/Social media era so it’s hard to grasp how off the charts marketing/exposure/reach could be.

Just imagine our glory years in present day Média climate /technology advancements/ social media platforms lol but now we operate & perform like a mid major so I understand the concern and ppl who think this will further put the nail in the coffin.
This deal puts a real end to UM IMO

Lol is this fear??? Whaaaaaaaaat......why would he say this?

It levels the playing field.

Those guys pay and juice with impunity.

If we get major corporations and local businesses paying players lucratively for their likeness, cherry picking south Florida and other major markets will get much more difficult.

Third party funding was always an option, the NCAA is just so old & draconian they never wanted to truly examine it.

The solution to paying players is just remove all the roadblocks & allow the apparel companies to compensate the players through licensing & likeness, if you don't want the school's paying them directly. Player's couldn't even profit off of having a YouTube channel with their own Highlights smh, you can't call yourself an American capitalist & be in favor of that.

If Adidas, Under Armor, Nike, Puma, Reebok etc., wants to pay athletes then let them & if they want it to keep it from getting out of control just put a cap on how much they're allowed to spend per school.

So for example, you can't have Nike spending $10million in one year with Bama. But since multiple schools have deals with multiple companies all those schools get the same amount that can be spent to pay the athletes per year. Meaning all Nike, Adidas, UA, Puma etc schools get the exact same amount.

And yes, there will still be some unfairness in the system, so what. It's not the perfect model & it never will be, but the fact remains the more they pretend the NCAA is run on amateurism the more cheating will get more rampant behind the scenes than it already is.

Either way, the money (both corporate & private) that people want to give these kids isn't going to disappear no matter what the rules are, so just bring it to the forefront & regulate it to what degree they can.

This is a GOOD thing for College Sports, IDC how much you want to argue that a degree & free room & board is sufficient, the fact is it's not. This is America got damnit, if young kids can make millions off YouTube for gaming, then players can make money of their athletic skill while in college.

This is going to get very interesting.
