The FSU game crowd

I just don't get it. I guess everyone is wired differently. But I could never picture myself sitting in the concourse area, talking nonsense with people while the Canes are literally playing live in that stadium. If people want to sit on a couch, "in AC", while drinking a ****tail....just stay home.
That's one of the issues with playing in an NFL stadium. Mind you, I like Hard Rock stadium but I don't do what you mention which is stay in the concourse to talk sh*t. I go to watch the game. College stadiums such as the swamp and doak don't give the fans those types of amenities.

Online queue, system crashing, not sure how uni/ticketmaster managed unclaimed tickets; buses were still dropping kids off after kickoff

But with a team like the canes, you have to have those types of amenities.

Small school, small student body, off campus stadium, 95% of the people there are not students, but are working adults, many (probably most) who never even attended the U.

A college type stadium wouldn’t work for Miami.

Oh I'm personally not complaining about Hard Rock but the excuse machine to me is just nuts. It's too far for the students, people rather sit in the concessions area and watch it on tv, the weather. It's always something. When the Canes played at the OB, it was the same thing. That stadium wasn't 20 miles away. In 2001 they averaged less than 50K

The student turnout was an embarrassment. How they don't fill their sections for our biggest rivalry and biggest home game of the season is beyond me.

Besides that, it was good crowd. Upper end zones were a bit sparse for a supposed "sell-out," but that's to be expected when the school tries to rip off its fans with overpriced nosebleed tickets, and then dumps them onto the secondary market at the last minute.
The student overflow section needs to be removed and opened to the general public. Other than ND 2017, I can't remember ever seeing that upper deck corner completely filled.

You've got to remember it's influencer university. UM students are more worried about recording their day-in-the-life videos or their Hyrox training videos than attending a football game. A huge reason kids pick Miami is that they want to grow their social media, and there is no better place to do that right now than the city of Miami

Glad you started this thread. Atmosphere was great...especially towards the end. But 2 things that irked me bigtime on Saturday.

1) A herd of students leaving at halftime. I was walking down the circular ramps from 200 to 100 level to say hello to some friends and I see dozens of students leaving the stadium. Mind you, score is 14-14, against your biggest rival...and you're leaving at halftime? It's like they want to get back to campus to sit in their dorms. Just ****ed me off.

Just FYI, the students have been doing this for years. This is a big consideration as it relates to the games being in Hard Rock. Without relitigating the "on-campus stadium" pros and cons, we have to be honest that the distance from campus to Hard Rock, the length of the bus trip, and the fact that many students have concerns with academic priorities...puts us in a situation where I have watched UM students leave games at halftime...FOR TWENTY YEARS.

This also was an issue at the OB and that stadium was significantly closer. Students simply don't care. If you want proof pull up any Hurricanes basketball game.

Speaking as a season ticketholder and someone who's been to hundreds of Canes games in my lifetime, I can say that the same two groups of people almost always leave at halftime; Students and elderly people (like 70+ year olds).

I can understand the elderly leaving at half, but students leaving is the reason why I always scoff at people wanting an on or near campus stadium. Why? The people who go and stay for the whole game are the south Florida market fans, not the campus fans.

Yeah, I'm calling bull**** on this, because it ignores a critical distinction.

When games were at the Orange Bowl and the time/distance was not as profound, there was not nearly the same level of "students leaving early". I was there for the great years in the 1980s and 1990s, and students stayed. The games were great, and it didn't take forever to get back to campus.

So, yes, a stadium closer to Coral Gables would create a POSSIBILITY that student behavior would revert to "all-game-attendance". Can I completely rule out the "EDM-concert/Molly/LSD" option? No. But four decades of game-experience at the Orange Bowl and Hard Rock have shown that time/distance are an equal (or greater) consideration for students to navigate on Saturdays in the fall semester.

And for years, some on this board wanted to build a tin can stadium on campus for these trust fund kids....
...can't even sit through a game against your biggest rival ...
Go figure.

Stop the bull**** false equivalency.

First, nobody suggested a "tin can stadium". Second, this is bigger than "trust fund kids". I know that the overly-simplistic posters don't like to hear about how important it is to own your IP and own your physical plant and control your own destiny, but every time I see people whining about how Formula 1 has destroyed our Hard Rock parking, I am reminded of the fact that, for 20 years, I HAVE TOLD YOU SO.

This is not about pitting "trust fund kids" against "hardcore fans". This is about the University of Miami, and UM always comes first. Getting UM students involved as undergrads...builds stronger alums...and drives bigger lifetime donations. And I guaran-*******-tee you that THIS alum/donor priority will always come before the needs of 20,000 season ticketholders who are not UM alums. The U comes first. Not "U football ticket sales". The U.

May not like it...learn to love it...
