The Bank (scrimmage edition)

M

No one who missed spring was getting first string reps, the first week of fall camp. That wouldn’t have looked good. The starters will fall into place as we progress through the next few weeks. I don’t think anyone believed the first depth chart would mirror the last. Don will be the one, Parish will be the two. Rooster will play a different role than he did last year. The freshman will be a freshman and Thad should be ahead of him too.

what two shows? Always looking for something good. Tia
Exactly what I was kinda insinuating...

That would be the smart play not reading into the 1st scrimmage too much. Give CJ some time to get adjusted since he hasn't been here too long. During the season Johnson will get plenty of playing time. At LB we are most likely to see a lot of Keontra Smith, Chase Smith, Caleb Johnson, Waynmon Steed, Corey Flagg and Wes Bissainthe with Thomas Davis also competing.

To be honest I would like to see.......

WLB. Wes Bissainthe/Keontra Smith
MLB. Caleb Johnson/ Corey Flagg
SLB. Chase Smith/ Waynmon Steed

at some point in the season although it's much more realistic to think that Steed will get the nod at Will to start the season. As much as I like the potential of Bissainthe and Chase Smith, @Rellyrell is right to be concerned. We have no idea what to expect from those 2 right now. Wes is a true freshman and Chase is a 3rd year player who up to this point has done nothing. I do think that over the course of the season that those two will find their niche but at the beginning, things could be a bit dicey. Malik Bryant, Raul Aguirre and Bobby Washington can't get here soon enough.

Chase is a second year. And I’m pretty sure he joined the team last summer, didn’t matriculate early to make Spring camp. So he’s only one full cycle in at this time.

I would love to know why he’s not playing more.

@DMoney
So you think next year is the year it all comes together? But that is potentially without TVD? You think Jake comes in and takes over with no drop off?

He was here in the spring last year this is his second year

TE

This position was relatively quiet by their standards. Jaleel Skinner routed up Keyshawn Washington for a TD from Brown in 7on7. Dominic Mamarrelli had the lead block to spring Brown on his TD run. Kahlil Brantley has some uncharacteristic drops but got snaps with the 1s.
Mallory had a TD on a seem route.

UGA had a historical defense that gave EVERY offense the business..

except bama
Ultimately Michigan’s style of play, played right into the strength of UGA’s defense. To beat them, you needed to spread them out. Michigan was a smash mouth type team and that just wasn’t going to work.

Wonder if consideration of a move of Chaney to WR ever has crossed the Staff's minds?

Once Chaney and the staff moves on from last years injury he’s taking the #1 spot easy.
This is why I find these reports somewhat sus

Rivals seems to have a different view on a few things.

They said Rooster had a rough night and Parrish wasn't even mentioned.

They said mallory had a TD.

From Rivals. They had both on the ground..

UPDATES

- Xavier Restrepo is dominating early on. Three catches in and the scrimmage just started.
- Offense marched right down the field with the focus continuing to be Restrepo. Ran a nice route on cornerback Tecory Couch
- Offensive line play has been really solid. TVD has been getting comfortable pockets
- Defense responds with a three and out. Big stop on a 3rd and short.
- Defense starting to play tough. James Williams & Leonard Taylor got sacks.
- Citizen down. Lower body injury.
- Defense is looking like another level of physical in this scrimmage
- Restrepo keeps the momentum going on a solid day. Makes a big 3rd down catch
- Defense forces another stop. No big plays happening really. Defense has been bringing a lot of pressure tonight
- Rooster & Parrish looking like the lead backs today
- The dink and dunk offense is continuing. Defense giving up no chunk plays.
- Jake Garcia scores on a zone read run.
- Key’shawn Smith still the only receiver to score. Made it happen on a out route
- Offense still can’t going in the vertical passing attack & still struggling to run the ball. Defense only giving up short/intermediate stuff and even that is contested
- Isaiah Horton catches a big vertical pass along the sideline and then gets hurt. Third player to go down today
- Restrepo is running some routes today. Keeps forcing holding penalties
- Another big catch. This time by Restrepo. WR1 might be crowned today
- Jaleel Skinner is going to be really good. You can see the difference in athleticism. Him & Arroyo will be a matchup nightmare in 2023
- Brashard Smith drops an easy one. Was wide open on a hitch
- and a huge catch by Colbie Young! Contested catch on two defenders
- Elijah Roberts has stepped up today on the DL. Seems to be everywhere
- Chaney running pretty well compared to the other backs.
- Rooster finally gets a nice run. Been a rough day overall for him
- Chaney touchdown catch in the flats
- Mallory big TD catch on a wheel...Took a huge hit. Might have been a sack though
- Steele has been dialing up pressures all night. Different than in years past as the DBs have been pretty stingy behind the pressures
- Frierson beautiful pick in a middle field robber technique. QB didn't even see him.

Totally forgot about D$ mentioning Redding getting 1st team reps. I was a bit shocked but Redding has talent, he just needs the right coach to get it out of him. Glad to hear that he is competing and giving himself a chance. He could be a nice big target in the red zone.

Actually now that I think of it, it would seem that this offense is literally built for red zone success. We have an offense that will be physical and has length. We have a multi faceted running game and multiple RBs who can catch passes out of the backfield. We have 3 elite pass catching TEs with plenty of size and length, and on top of that we have length at WR with Brinson, George, Redding, Horton, Young and even Smiff. Elite QB play with TVD and we are going to be very difficult to stop in the red zone.
Chase Smith was a true Frosh last year.

D$, last season we heard the same things all offseason and fall camp. Are these the same sources or new ones? Why should we believe that these extremely positive practice reports are more credible than last year's?

Lol I wasn't going to mention anything, but it was discussed offline with others who are well connected.

I was very surprised to read Dmoney's description of the RBs performance.

Don Chaney was the best back on Saturday.

I'm starting to think there is a conspiracy to push Don and Mallory out. LOL

Sounds like our biggest weaknesses are lack of a game changer at WR, OL depth, and LB.

The WR room has talent, but we need at least 1, if not 2 of Brinson, George, B Smith to emerge. I am really surprised at how little B Smith is getting mentioned.
@DMoney any insight you can provide?

I am confident in our top 7ish on the OL, but we better pray for health. Not much quality or experienced depth behind that.

With LB, I think we will take a big step forward, but I'm in wait and see mode.
