The Bank (5/3)

Mostly portal though really any traditional tall fast outside WR1.

That said, Joseph’s a stud. He was a slot guy in the recruitment but because of the way the portal WR recruiting is going, I actually think we need to try him (and possibly Robbie on the outside). I had this conversation earlier today with @TheOriginalCane offline. He can play a Jeff Thomas-ish role. We need to create an outside downfield threat and show the offense has changed. I think we’ll have to do it from who we have and Ray Ray would be the guy I’d try. Plus it would create a lot of excitement for WR recruiting if he does well.
Extremely worried about his release off the line against press with his size and being a freshman but I agree that the situation is that dire where we might as well try.

Agreed, NIL+Portal together are a total mess. College football needs to eliminate the immediate eligibility transfer rule (unless grad transfer). That simple. Not sure why NCAA wouldn't make that move?
They probably figure once the scholarship limitations are back in place and we move on from the Covid extensions it will work itself out.

And they are scared to do anything that can be construed as impeding the ability of athletes to make money from their likeness. They don’t want to be in court again.

But yeah the way fix this would be to do away with the free transfer unless there’s a coaching change.

He can shut the **** up with that. No one’s saying Mario can’t recruit the trenches. Mario can’t pay a WR right now and that’s a fact yet that poster is showing up in different threads and taking these shots at “people” like we’re making a broader issue and then he’s dipping. I hate posters who take those kind of blanket hit and run bull**** shots on repeat at the board. Worthless

You make fair points. I do have concerns that we are in "the bottom of the 9th" with Portal WR commits, but I also have some confidence in our younger players. You remember I was asking when Colbie would ever see the field BEFORE his breakout game, and I think Ray Ray and Robbie/Bobbie (I'm gonna get 'em confused until they start playing) will be pleasant surprises.

And while there's probably an element of "Slurpers vs. Mopers" to it, we have some on the board who have unrealistic expectations about how much "news" will break each day, and what the "spring Portal window" actually means. I've tried a few times to point out that Portal business has been sloooow outside of Colorado and Louisville, but we still have people who think we should be getting Portal commits within 72 hours of a name being dropped as a "target" or "potential visit".

That's why I loved @DMoney 's post so much, it validates what many have said, that Mario is working hard and silently, but that it does NOT always guarantee the desired Portal results when you factor in the weirdness of NIL-asks and starter-role-demands.

I still think that if we pull 6 commits, with 4 who can be starters, there will still be dissatisfaction on the part of certain posters. But that is an eternal ongoing conversation, sadly.

For now, I'm going to trust Mario's gift of gab and the beautiful SoFla weather to impress these upcoming visitors. It's in the 40s right now in Atlanta, and I'm wondering when summer will start (by Florida standards).

We are still going to have some holes in 2023 and it might take even longer to build true depth that doesn't cause us to panic when a player limps off the field, but I'll be out there for most of the games, cheering and expecting us to win.

I also boo sometimes and yell at guys who **** up, so I'm balanced. I don't slurp or mope.

Dammmmmnnnn...I love it!

Fantastic. I hope they do NOT put their first initials on their jerseys, so they can swap out for special teams and whatnot...

Oh yay, the Mario slurper attack hyena’s are out in force going after anyone speaking truth.

**** every one of you. Did any one of you learn from the last 4 or so coaches that you’re actually a better fan for being honest?

Nope. You ****ers aren’t going to bully people speaking truth like you did before. There’s a big difference between speaking honest truth with good intention and being a **** on everything miserable ****.

If you slurpers start going after people for speaking honest facts and opinion that doesn’t jive with your fairytale dreams I’m going to hound, haunt and hunt you like Freddy Kruger.

Who are the uncommitted HS names to watch at CB? I know we like the Robinson (UGA) and Howard (Michigan St.) @DMoney

Someone should start publishing a The Bank but for the general mood of the board and whether the Mopes or the Slurpers are ascendant/who is carrying the day.

- The Mopes are out in full force, accusing our head coach Mario Cristobal of acting too slow in the transfer portal for several marquee players at positions of desperate need. They feel that his reputation as a power run coach who destroyed Justin Herbert's college career (quite possibly his life) and his extremely deliberate (some would say glacially slow) personnel selection process have doomed us to an eternity of mediocrity. Every morsel of new information confirms this narrative.

- The Slurpers on the other hand are preaching patience, trust the process, that Mario knows what he's doing and that just because we're not hearing news doesn't mean we're not making moves.

- Look for the Mopes to respond that the Slurpers are just deluding themselves again, that if they really looked at the situation objectively they'd see just how futile an endeavor Miami Hurricanes football fandom is. That this is yet another classic case of orange and green colored glasses.

I know both sides are frustrated but what I'm hearing is that it will be a very exciting week of narratives ahead.

Sounds like some Greasers and Socs **** going down! Stay Gold Ponyboy!
