The Arch hype train is derailing already

I'm a buyer too.

I hope he has a meh year, so Mensah can win the Heisman, and then Arch gets drafted by the Dolphins.

Amazing how little people actually know about football on this board.
I'm willing to learn. What has Manning shown you that indicates he's ready to make the leap as a passer? All of those "stud" attributes go into the toilet if they don't align to pass the ball well. After all, he's a QB. For a Manning, I've been surprised his footwork is erratic, at best. To my eyes, in actual football games with pads on, it seems to throw off the entire chain. His arm angle on clean plays is about as consistent as Jaden Harris' Safety eyes. He sits on his first read for seeming ever. His accuracy is all over the place in terms of the levels on the field. What am I missing? Please keep this to football games. I generally avoid the talk about how players look in shorts.

a polished player with no upside

By definition of what I wrote, ok. I didn't write this originally and didn't think it was necessary, but I was referring to players in college that were polished with no upside.
Based on your user name, I'm also going to give a little grace as the PTSD from The Tua Era has to be something fierce.

There are legit concerns about his game. But he also improved dramatically the last half of last season.

But, that's not what we're talking about, I thought. He has some tools. Clearly. You have to be blinded by bias to not admit that. He is not yet a good passer.

Even in the last half of the season, I watched almost all his games. Under pressure, he's quite wild. I understand almost every single QB on earth is worse under pressure than in a clean pocket. Except, to me, he looked like two totally different QBs. That's a rough sign if someone is trying to prove he's even an average passer right now.

The other part I already mentioned was the internal clock. Seems slow to me. Looked slow to end the season, too. What I value in a QB is one that can maintain some level of potency when disrupted or pushed off the spot. Maybe he will get better. As of now, I haven't seen it.

@DMoney would you be kind enough to list a couple recent examples of "a polished player with no upside" so that I know that one actually exists and isn't a Strawman? Specifically one that played significant snaps. Maybe even a QB or two?
On our team? Emory and Jake Garcia would fit the bill.

I sold myself on the latter after a good season in Georgia. It was an important lesson. The lack of multisport athleticism, over coaching, early blooming and lack of standout tools should’ve been red flags.

Thanks for the reply. Didn't have to be our team, but ok. I can't buy Emory as being polished.
Jake Garcia is kind of interesting. I can see your point because he was rated pretty high out of high school. After seeing him play a bit, it didn't take long for most of us to see that he wasn't really polished either.
I'm ok with agreeing to disagree with you on this one. If you end up being correct and Arch does become that stud you think he is, feel free to bump this and I'll give you a salute and some flowers.

He has 3 years of experience under his belt. The potential of his potential is shrinking quickly.
I agree with everything else you wrote.
That’s another thing that annoys me about the hype around Arch. Many commentators make excuses because he was a first year starter and overlook the fact that it took 3 years to just be mediocre.

generational elite dolphin lock....

I feel like I'm arguing with an angry girlfriend when it comes to talking to Arch slurpers. Same crowd as the LeBron is better than MJ slurpers. They minimize anything that doesn't work in their favor and stretch the semi-truths that support their position to create a false narrative that is validated by their echo chamber posse.

Your takes are the same ones the experts said about Josh Allen. And Arch is comparable to Josh Allen coming out of college.

The big knock on Allen was an inaccurate arm, how did that critique work out? Arch has similar arm concerns, which will get corrected. His arm strength has been reported to be between Eli and Payton, but considered above average. Those guys were pure pocket passers, Arch is a dual threat qb, who has modeled his game after Josh, his words. Admittedly he throws with unconventional arm angles, but so do alot of rushing qbs.
Scouts have said he more than has the arm talent for tight window throws and the touch on deep balls.
Will he be as cerebral as Payton? Probably not, but he'll get smarter and make better reads.

He's 6'4", 220 lbs, 4.6 speed. Projection and potential is the name of the NFL game. If I'm Jon Sullivan, I drafting him #1.

What about the Jaden Rashada hype train?

Commits to Miami/Signs with UF but never enrolls/enrolls at ASU and starts 3 games as a true freshman before getting replaced/transfers to UGA but sits the bench and never plays/transfers to Sacramento State, starts two games but gets replaced in the lineup/transfers to Mississippi State

Word is Rashada is No. 4 on the depth chart at MSU after leaving FCS Sac State, where he completed roughly 40% of his passes before getting benched. Not sure why he transfers to an SEC school (or why MSU takes him) with the starting job locked up by a sophomore who's one of the most talented QB's in the country

it’s funny you say no one knows about football and then parrot a take from the NFL, a league that disastrously evaluates quarterbacks year after year

I like his athletic potential, too, but you can't miss the easy throws or wide-open guys and last in the pros.

Maybe we find out Arch should play receiver like his dad and not QB like his grandpa or his uncles.

Stranger things have happened

I see it the same as you. Specifically foot work, arm angles, accuracy and how it effects his passes. His mechanics just look off. Always have since I've seen him on tv. That seems to me to be something that should be corrected after a couple years in an "elite" P4 program, no? You sort of alluded to this, but I think his mental game is off. That part takes a little longer as it's nuanced and complex.
Just to keep it fair, I do think he is an elite runner. Once he tucks it and takes off, he can house it.

This thread is a prime example of why the media loves Arch

He doesn’t even play here and his threads get more traction/engagement than most of our actual football team

People love to talk about him

I don’t have any strong opinions about him I’m just glad we have a superior QB in Mensah
