The Arch hype train is derailing already

Arch is a stud.

He’s big as ****, he runs for 60-yard TDs and he can throw.

He dealt with unprecedented media noise, played behind a horrible OL, didn’t complain and still finished strong.

He’s not a finished product and he has a lot of work to do as a passer. But I’d rather have a tough gamer with big tools than a polished player with no upside.

I’ll take the Arch stock anybody wants to sell.
I'm a buyer too.

I hope he has a meh year, so Mensah can win the Heisman, and then Arch gets drafted by the Dolphins.

Amazing how little people actually know about football on this board.

I agree with this. I mean I hope he sucks like he did early last year, but i doubt that happens. He has a good arm and he's a big, fast MF so he can hurt you on the ground as well as through the air. Needed some refinement in his game and that seemed to come as the season went on. Add in that he has some fantastic weapons at his disposal and I'd bet on him being really good this year.

I think some just assume he's overrated because of his name. But watch him play and the tools are obvious.

Again, I hope I'm wrong and he sucks!

He's Bo Nix. Everyone waiting on him to take that big jump and be what he thought he was supposed to be, and it won't happen until year 5. In his case, probably never happens for him because he won't stick in college long enough. Those jumps don't happen in the NFL if you don't see it through in college.
I think it is absolutely in the table he stays another year. He's gonna be the #1 pick whenever he Declares imo. What if it is the browns? Lol

His uncles both started 3yrs and 4yrs total before leaving…

I liken the ESPN-fueled Arch hype to the way "generational" gets thrown around like a used masstabatory napkin.

Arch was a 0.9995 COMPOSITE out of high school. 247 had him as a 100. That makes him one of the highest rated prospects EVER. He barely sniffed the field as a freshman and played slightly more his second year. His third year he started and put up ok numbers, aided largely by his second half of the season, where he accumulated most of his stats against bottom feeder $EC teams. Here are some other telling stats (yeah I'm cherry picking, but it's also true):

- 18 of his 26 TD passes came against the likes of San Jose State (4), UTEP (1), Sam Houston (3), Kentucky (0), MS State (3), Vandy (3), and Arkansas (4).
- Against Ohio St, Florida, Oklahoma, Georgia, Texas A&M and Michigan, Arch went a combined 116/192 (60.4%) for 1250 yards with 8 TDs and 4 INTs. Not awful. Certainly not great.
- He passed for under a 50% (FIFTY PERCENT) completion rate THREE TIMES last year. Against who? UTEP, Kentucky, and Texas A&M. He had two more games where his completion percentage was in the 50's - against Ohio State and Florida. For comparison, Dante Moore had ZERO games last year where he passed for less than a 60% completion percentage. Carson Beck had two such games - 59.4% against Indiana and 56.7% against Florida.

To bring this full circle, I mentioned the term "generational" to start this off. Because of the the way hyperbole is thrown around in the media, on social media and on the internet in general, is it really any wonder that ESPN is hyping this kid up (again)? Everythng is the next GOAT, the next Dan Marino, the next TB12, the next Michael Jordan. Add in the Manning factor at ESPN and it's easy to see. HeII even Beulah Balbricker wouldn't have to squint to see the freckle on Pee Wee's tallywhacker it's so easy.

Arch is an ok college QB. Is he a bust? Eh, probably too early to call him that, but it's not out of the question, especially given his lofty rating out of high school. However he certainly is not this next in line to take the Manning QB Family Dynasty to another level.

@DMoney would you be kind enough to list a couple recent examples of "a polished player with no upside" so that I know that one actually exists and isn't a Strawman? Specifically one that played significant snaps. Maybe even a QB or two?

Now I'm concerned with your evaluation of Miami players if you think Arch is a stud.

He is Daniel Jones with the Manning last name. He can run well in a straight line, but his footwork and mechanics passing are awful.

Show me his best game against a defense with a pulse. His 2 best are Vandy and Michigan's backups in a bowl game.

He has mastered the screen game, his biggest plays are the receiver catching it behind the los and doing all of the work.

It's probably safe to say he hasn't lived up to his rating. It's also safe to say his draft odds are also inflated. If the guy's name was Larry McAverage with the exact same stats, there would be no hype train and he would've had to attend camps in high school.

The potential is still there and that's the gap between results and draft stock.

He has 3 years of experience under his belt. The potential of his potential is shrinking quickly.
I agree with everything else you wrote.

JuJu Lewis is a QB I’ve heard that about from various recruiting gurus.

The dude who is at Colorado? Maybe. I have to plead ignorance a bit here, but has he even played much? Isn't he either entering college or his 2nd year? You might be completely correct, but I think another couple years need to play out before putting him on that list.

I'm on the Arch train if he can make better decisions and know when a play is unsalvageable. I'd still take Mensah right now, but Arch absolutely has Heisman potential.

They think he's a savior here (Denver/Boulder area). But they're pretty desperate for the Buffs not to suck anymore.
