Miami gets a bad rap as a city and place for these kids go to college, but swear to God, it's the small-town yokel style living that is infinitely worse for these kids.
Come to Miami and sure, there are parts of the city where trouble will find you—but idle hands and nothing to do in a dump like College Station, Texas can be so much worse as these kids are just looking to fill their down time—and that's where real trouble can brew.
It's human nature; staying busy and having multiple options and things to do can actually keep you from doing dumb things that get you in trouble.
All the moronic things I did with buddies at a teenager; usually came from having a lot of time, no money, limited resources and nothing to do—which led to the kinds of things that got us hurt, other people hurt or resulting in some type of illegal activity, or property damage.
I usually agree with your takes, but not this one.
Here, there, or anywhere he's going to be driving around towards some destination with what he got popped for.
As for nothing to do, that'd be wrong. It has the one thing most college kids are into. Plenty of tail to chase and parties. Besides the work you've gotta do as a student athlete, that's what college kids look for. There's plenty there and you don't have to drive all over the city of Miami to get to it. It's closer, that's what the town was built on.
He was doing what many get busted for, at least in part. Same **** happens here and every college campus in the country. I don't advocate for it, but it happens. He got caught. Sucks and I'm not a fan of kicking some young man while he's down. Hope he gets what he deserves though, learns, grows, and becomes a better person for it. It's a teachable moment and hopefully he takes it serious.
