I see some sweet recruits that are budding with potential...drowning in their own ***** under this current staff.

12 wins next year with a real coach.

God can we please bring in a 4-3 mastermind to take over the D, and for Golden to agree to not touch the D ever.

That along with replacing at least Franklin and Williams with quality coaches might be the only thing to save Golden in Miami.

Wouldn't mind moving Hurlie to DBs(that was the position he played here) and getting bad a$$ DLine and LB coaches, who can actually recruit.

The D is predicated on a philosophy. The entire current squad revolves around that philosophy. You can switch in a system and the philosophy will muck it up.

Entire thing needs to be replaced. Tone begins at the very top.

That "we play to hopefully not lose the game" mentality is what is killing us. That said, if somehow golden could turn over the D to someone with a much more aggressive scheme and mentality, I think we could be very good with the guys we have.

My main issue with golden is his inability to say our system sucks. Don't get me wrong, I don't think we have top 5 defensive talent, but we should have the talent to force the Nebraskas and GTs to beat us in the air.

AQM should just leave. too much talent to be mistreated

He'll be here. Have a gut feeling he likes Miami. Was in Brickell on Saturday. Enjoying himself as any young man should.

If he focuses for a year or maybe (if we're lucky) two, his talent will get him to where he intends. He has to be a legitimate 255 right now. In an early 2000 defense, he's Jerome Mcdougle and Mccord is Andrew Williams. Trent Harris is Jamaal Green. Kamalu is William Joseph. Jenkins is Wilfork. And, we're living in the backfield of opponents. QBs are going to the 'Gun just to get some fresh air.

Reading this made me sad

Kamalu is the only guy I like among the defensive tackles. He's got enough movement and tenacity, a good frame, and should be able to add 5-10 pounds without sacrificing anything. The problem is alongside him. Heurtelou is too limited athletically. A guy like that can look admirably tough early in the season but then the problems are glaring later. Jenkins has played less but I see some of the same issues. I'm willing to accept that he might be more than we've seen so far. Moten was highly regarded. I'm not going to comment on someone who basically hasn't played.

Cliches are based on truth. When the theme is that we've been awful at recruiting defensive tackle for several consecutive seasons, you can't set that aside and pretend everything is dandy. That position is regulating the defense.

I love the talent on the edge and especially Chad Thomas. I think he's the real deal and that McCord and AQM are a significant notch below that.

The defensive backs are too soft. Watch the rocket toss play for Georgia Tech's third touchdown. Two defensive backs were knocked on their ***. They weren't 10 yards deep. They were right there and knocked backward into the end zone onto their ***. Deon Bush suffered the same fate on a different goal line play. IMO, Dallas Crawford has been the most disappointing player on the team, based on the promise coming out of spring. I don't trust South Florida defensive backs in general based on the comically soft high school football I witness.

Granted, a defensive coordinator can make more difference in a year than any other hire. Soft one season can be ferocious the next. I've seen example after example. As a USC alum I read and sometimes post on their boards. There is quite a bit of frustration this season that Clancy Pendergast was dumped after one season in favor of Justin Wilcox. Obviously Sarkisian wanted to bring in his own guy.

It's a long process to get to 4 yards per play and stay there. Keep in mind that even if a new guy takes over and the defense looks phenomenal early, it's likely smoke and mirrors. Stay away from garbage like, "we're top 5," and "we'll dominate Florida State." That's happy adjuster stupidity.

I see speed! I see power! I see a bad-*** mother who don't take no crap off of nobody!

But, will they be asked to play that way?

LDE AQM/Trent Harris
DT Kamalu/Moten
DT Courtel Jenkins/Heurtelou
RDE Chad Thomas/Tyriq Mccord/Demetrius Jackson

WLB Jermaine Grace/Darion Owens
MLB Raphael Kirby/Juwon Young
SSLB Armbrister/Mike Smith

CB Artie Burns/Antonio Crawford
SS Jamal Carter/Dallas Crawford
FS Deon Bush/Jenkins (if healthy), if not Gayot
CB Howard or Elder

*Add anyone I may have forgotten.

Since you're not the type to torture yourself, this post tells me that there's a legitimate chance that Al gets canned.

I see a 3-4 that's more aggressive in approach but restrained by its coach's unwillingness to cut loose. That's true regardless of dc.

Given a new coaching staff in January, there's no way that lineup isn't immediately competing for the Coastal title. 6-8 months of deprogramming and returning to their aggressive roots in an attacking system and we win 9-10 without breaking a sweat. This is not a multi-year rebuild, we have the talent on both sides of the ball. Just needs a brain trust that will make it go.

Miami has a LEGIT chance to make the playoffs next year. I'm not talking Dolphins lol
Brad Kaaya, with an off season of strength & conditioning of college? Kid will be scary good.
Stacey Coley, Herb Waters, Berrios, and the bevy of 2015 running backs with Joe & Trayone Gray with a year under his belt. Offensive line & TE will be a concern, but not too much.
ACC schedule & Nebraska at HOME next year will be a golden opportunity to make the playoffs.

I wish we had a physical enforcer defensive back like that Cash kid at Duke, the transfer from Ohio State. That guy plays like a Buckeye defensive back, the same type they had in 2002. Miami hasn't had anybody like that in years. Bush was supposed to be that guy but he's a fraud. He can't move, can't tackle in space, and nowadays he can't hold his ground.

Virginia Tech always has defensive backs like that. Cody Grimm wasn't especially talented but he gave us fits, then played in the NFL for at least a few years. Last season Kyle Fuller was considered the best run stopper in years from the cornerback position. He's already starring for the Bears. Now his younger brother is at Virginia Tech. Not as effective so far, and he does take risks, but last week he returned an interception for a touchdown.

Our guys are not always as good as the ones we face. That's all I'm saying. We get to know the names as recruits and are thrilled to sign them, and assume they are special. They aren't always special. Defensive tackle has been weak and I've been disappointed with virtually every recent defensive back. For all the guys who exceed expectation as pros, there are occasional examples like Brandon Harris who have been somewhat disappointing. I wish we would recruit some rugged defensive backs from the midwest.
