He can recruit, but the guy hasn’t even won a bowl game.
He would be very risky for FSU. It’s rare that coaches get mediocre results and then go to a bigger job and win a ton of games.
Agree.
It's also starting over, in a sense—which Florida State hasn't had to do in a long-*** time.
Jimbo was part of the Bowden transition; there for years as an OC and effectively running things a few years before officially taking over. It was as seamless as it gets, replacing a long-time legend.
These are uncharted waters for Florida State in the modern era; bringing in a brand new guy—and one with no FSU ties (which Jimbo ultimately had as an OC for a few years before taking over.)
Also, how impactful will Taggart be as a CEO, ensuring that facilities are up to par? Richt has done a lot at Miami—putting in $1M of his own cash and pushing for internal upgrades. FSU needs a push on that end. Is that something Taggart can handle? This job might be too big for him.
Regardless, it's a downgrade in a sense as the Noles arguably want a bigger name. Knocks on Fisher aside, he won a national title and some ACC Championships there. Taggart doesn't have that resume.
