Swing and miss

I feel like this is going to end the same as the recruiting class. Every *****ed and moaned about the class and dline recruiting all summer. When it was all said and done, everyone was happy.

Missing on ward sucks. He didn’t pick a school over us, he picked the NFL. Just a tough decision.

Lot of time. And there are lots of options still, some not in The portal. Mario won 10 games with Anthony brown. He did it building a talented team from recruiting.

It’s a miss but let’s not **** our pants yet
This right here! Ward is one person he's gone oh well move on! Plenty of QBs! The same people *****ing will be the same ones overly slobbin **** whoever we get.

A lot is in our favor. It’s his second full class. Lot of guys have now had a year of development. Year 1-year 2 saw improvements in almost every area. The QB situation is the key factor. I think a big deal is having both coordinators for year 2. That matters.

With the schedule next year it should be plenty of wins. Again, the QB will dictate a lot. Even if we roll out Emory or Jacurri, I still think we are a solid team. We beat Clemson with Emory and had 1 score game at FSU. A proven vet can put us in conversations that matter
We have also had very few seniors that were major contributors since Mario arrived and most of them were transfers. Couch is basically the only non-transfer senior that played this year. Manny left a garbage roster and a terrible recruiting class. We need to get deeper and more experienced and that will make a big difference over the next couple of years.

OSU had a mediocre offense this year even with Marvin Harrison Jr. Tougher schedule than UM, but very similar offensive numbers.
Bottleneck was the QB, so they told the QB to kick rocks and they'll figure it out.

There was a rumor the guy they wanted wasn't even in the portal yet (earliest deep x dot com rumors were Arch Manning).

So with Smith's national letter of intent in limbo, Miami didn’t sit idly. They pounced. Hurricanes wide receiver coach Kevin Beard reached out. So did Miami head coach Mario Cristobal and the program’s executive director Dennis Smith. On top of all of those pitches, Smith said the Hurricanes also reached out to his agent and re-up their offer in an effort to sign him.

But perhaps the most interesting phone call of the night came from a quarterback not yet associated with anybody: Washington State transfer Cameron Ward.

Ward announced for the NFL Draft on Jan. 1, but before then he had been involved in a month-long transfer portal recruitment that included Miami and Ohio State among others. Ward called Smith during the madness of that nine-hour period. They talked for 10 minutes. Smith remembers Ward telling him, ‘If you choose to go to Miami, I’m going to go there.”
But I thought we had our qb when he visited? Why would he be chatting with Smith on signing day, well after his visit, and still act like he wasn't sure what he was doing ?

He agreed to and signed an NIL deal with Miami. Then changed his mind and went dark. Sucks.

This was a bad miss. Mario wanted to sign Ward badly. I thought it would get done. Now there is a lot of pressure on the staff to salvage the situation.

Miami thought there would be an answer on December 13th and felt optimistic from Signing Day to Christmas based on feedback from Ward. As the process dragged on, people grew more concerned with the NFL.

Ward is making a risky (some would say ill-advised) decision due to his low draft grade, but it’s concerning we couldn’t sell him on development. That’s been a knock on Mario since Oregon.
It’s all good DMoney. I’m glad it’s over with finally. It’s a hard-knock life for the Canes and fans. Nothing comes easy when trying to turn a program that has been in the abyss for this long. Patience is what most need to have because Mario is here for a bit

McCord was a 247 composite 5* QB coming out. Came in with Ewers and now both are gone and OSU could barely complete a forward pass in its bowl game. Maybe Day is a QB killer. I saw McCord at ND Stadium this year and thought he was pretty solid. He’s definitely not a mobile QB, but is quite good IMHO. I personally would've taken McCord at UM in a hot second out of the portal.

Posted this a while ago. I said this then, but Salter would probably be by far top portal QB. I'd offer him what we offered Ward and see what happens. Now that NCAA can't stop him from transfering twice it's worth a shot. After that I'd be on Jaylen Raynor, Seth Henigan, and probably trying to get Pratt again. **** maybe Texas wants Arch to start and Ewers isn't ready to leave.... lol. Legit I'd be going to every top Qb in CFB and offering our $2M or whatever it is.

We'd be cooking with gas with this Kaidon Salter.

97 prospect to 84 transfer (wut?) to 31:5 @ 10.3 and 1000 yards on the ground.

Whatever he wants. Blank check. No one in the portal is that good. Chiles is currently highest prospect at a 96...Salter would be higher than that.

Hopefully we get some interesting portal entrants by Midnight tonight. Today is the last day to enter until after spring. (Maybe grad transfers can still enter?)
